Only In San Antonio

Just watching the news on TV and apparantly, the latest recycling theft starting up is to steal your catalytic converter for the precious metals.

A bank employee parking lot had some cars vandalized and they stole the catalytic converters. They said the converters contain palladium ($370/ounce), Platinum ($1500/ounce) and Rhodium ($7000/ounce).

Instead of destoying a new construction home by stealing a $3000 AC compressors and getting $75 for copper, yanking 5000 feet of wire and getting $300, I guess they found a way to steal a $1000 cat converter for $25 worth of rare metals. (And in the process destroy some poor working persons car.)

I guess since construction has slowed down around town and they are using more PEX and less copper pipes, the thieves have to find some "work" in their chosen profession.

At least their workin for a livin to help supplement their Public Aid/Welfare check. Gettin a convertor lose in a parking lot can't be an easy way to make money.

not just san antonio they are doing it in dallas also. Theft is getting bad we caught some people trying to steal my moms horses one night, a few months later someone stole one of her trailers and a week after that they tried to come back and take the horse trailer but couldnt get the lock off the hitch. My mom lives alone and it scares me thankfully one of the neighbors has allready said if he sees anyone on her property hes shooting, we now make sure he knows if anyone is coming over lol.

They weren't trying to saw off your horses hooves for the iron were they? :tttt:

BTW, glad you have someone to look out for your mom...

If I ever see under under my rig, they'll have 230 grains of a non-ferous metal they will be free to recycle. :DD:

A girl I used to work with had her stock wheels stolen off of her Honda Civic in the parking lot of her apartment one night. According to the cops, that is surprisingly common, they can't be traced back, the ricers want spare rims for street tires and they can be sold quickly... They knew what they were doing too. They put her car on landscaping bricks and just took the wheels off. The car was between other cars in the parking lot and the height stayed exactly the same. No one even knew it had happened until she tried to go to work.

How messed up is that???

They're stealing converters up here too. We have these Park N' Ride lots for the suburbanites that take the bus into the city. Several of them have gotten off the bus at the end of the day, started their vehicle and noticed it was a lot louder than it was when they parked it. :argh:
