How To Get A Job

i was talking to a friend of mine last night about the most efficient way to get a new job.

applying on line:
my wife has applied to probably over 20 place on line with zero response!
my buddy agrees. Internet is virtually useless!

any one here got a job from applying online?

good ol applications:
my buddy and i discussed. he claims 4% of people handing in applications will get a job. unless if when you bring the application in to ask for the manager/or person hiring to give the application to. so you have a shot talk mini interview

my personal favorite:
knowing the right people.
you know people and know when a job becomes available before being in your local news paper. just a one on one talk and hired on the spot.

i just got a new job. i handed in 5 applications. with no response.
yesterday i went to the post office and i talked to a buddy of mine.
he asked what i was up to and where i was working. i told him i'm still lobstering but i probably getting done next month. the guy i work for is 66 and is going in for surgery. figured it's a good time to get done.

my buddy said well we are looking for an other hand on the island doing carpentry. is said sure. we swapped phone numbers. and i start the beginning of next month.

I've had the most luck with just knowing the right people or knowing the person who knows the right people.

Ya gotta know the right people man...bottom line

Knowing the right people is step one from there on out you are on yer own...............you must be qualified for said position

every job I have ever had in my life was because of someone I knew

holy cow I need more coffee, what I ment to express was people hired recently know someone on the inside, does not mean you have to be qualified, not like when I hired on in 1990 when you had to have tickets, now they seem to be looking for warm bodys and us old timers get to share our "wealth of knowledge" training these people. ok now this is turning into a rant, need liquor in coffee.

my company gives me 2500 bucks if they hire the one I find

I'm going with knowing the right person too. When I quit my last job, I used monster and found that it was not useful at all. I sent my resume to several companies through there and didn't get squat in return. Not even a phone call...

I just happened to find an ad in the newspaper from a former customer of mine and got a job with them, but if I didn't have a prior relationship with them, they probably wouldn't have hired me...

I also agree that getting face to face contact with the manager/interviewer is a huge help too. That's why I think the online stuff doesn't work.
