How Far Back Does Your Memory Go??

I can go all the way back to Kindergarden (about 24 years). One of my class mates got really sick, you know the puking kind. :D

LORDDiESEL 08-25-2011 04:21 PM

all depends on how you remember them. I can only remember memories in picture format. I can see pictures that go back to when i was a baby, before i could understand words. I can't make much understanding of them tho.

cougar 08-28-2011 12:21 PM

I can remember, ah, never mind I forgot.

Back to about 59 (1959) in memorable segments. Mainly getting into trouble.

Budgreen 08-28-2011 05:22 PM

I would have to say my earliest memories are from right about when I turned 4.. (30yrs ago lol) and playing on the rope swing we had and trying to fight a really mean rooster

I can remember some things to before kindergarten; I'll write up some of the more salient ones.

I remember being dropped off at daycare and crying constantly. Nap-time was the worse; I remember the little half-inch thick blue mats that we were supposed to sleep on, but they were covered in plastic and near where they hinged in half the plastic was coming apart so it'd poke me. The fear of being poked was one of the reasons I hated naptime. My mother convinced the staff that I would only fall asleep if they rubbed my back, so I'd get my back rubbed every day, but I still hated it.

One time I woke up early during naptime, or only pretended to be asleep until the staff went away, and I got up and took a book from a wall of books, then sat down at a table to "read" it. The book was "Brave Firemen", we had the same book at home. (Incidentally, I can't find the book anywhere and would buy it if I could; it was about firemen responding to a fire, I think it explained all their different trucks.) Anyways, I was sitting at a little table with this book when I was supposed to be sleeping, and the teacher lady comes by and asks me something like, "Is that your book?"

And I answered truthfully and said "yes", then she said I wasn't supposed to have it and I was supposed to be sleeping. Then she made me go back and lay on the prickly mat. I remember the event because it was the first time I realized that sometimes it was better to lie, that lying about the book might have had a better outcome for me.

The other event I remember at that daycare was at play-time one day, we could see the street through the fence, and there was one SUV (burgundy I think) that was sitting at the light in between two lanes, so he was straddling the lane divider line. For some reason that struck me, and I went on for a few years thinking that cars were supposed to travel straddling the lines on the road rather than staying in between the cars on the road.

We lived in the mountains, one time (following a kegger, I think) I remember peeing into a hole in the ground, and had a rattlesnake pop out of the hole while I was peeing in it. I'm pretty sure it really happened, but it might have just been my overactive imagination. I vividly recall the diamondback pattern, and I ran inside and told my mom and dad but I don't think anybody believed me. Us kids always pretended that snakes lived in holes, but we were always told otherways.

I remember breaking a piece of tree branch off of the big tree in front of my house while being quizzed which way was "North"; I pointed up, and was told that North really wasn't "up" as much as "that away".

I remember that between the living-room carpet and the kitchen linoleum there were some prickly nail heads sticking up, and after I stepped on the nail heads I'd cry and my father would dutifully pound on the nails with a hammer. At one point I either only pretended to get hurt or I intentionally stepped on the nails to get hurt, and while my dad went to get the hammer my mother said something along the lines of "knock it off, he just needs to learn to not step on the nails". At one point he was using a rubber deadblow hammer; it took me years before I learned what a rubber hammer was good for.

I remember "learning to swim" in the jacuzzi; I'd float in the middle while my father would hold me up and I flapped my arms around.

After my parents got divorced and my mother left the house I remember spilling a big cup of Gatorade while eating dinner with my dad, and I sopped it up a sock and started sucking the Gatorade out of the sock... And my dad said something along the lines of, "don't suck that Gatorade out of that sock".

I remember finding one of those little plastic clips that hold plastic bread bags shut, and I asked my father what it was. He told me, and I asked him if I could use it for anything; he suggested that if I had a club house I could use it to hold the curtains up. I held onto that clip for a while, thinking one day I might have a club house

I remember that a neighbor family had three cute daughters, I figured I'd marry one one day. One of them was my first introduction to braces; she'd babysit me. There was this one time when I was on top of her with a pair of plastic pliers, and I said to open her mouth, and she asked "why?", and I said that I was going to pull the wires out. She got up real fast.

I remember my mom telling me to pee in the bathtub once. I don't remember why I had to that one time, but I always wanted to afterwards but never had permission.

Since this isn't in The Badlands, I won't get into my sexual fantasies.

Of course, my real thorough memories begin once I started kindergarten. They're only scattered before that.

age 2 or 3

KD93 09-28-2011 06:38 PM

I can remember one memory from the age of 2, although I had a dream one where I went back in time and talked to myself when I was only a few months old. Depending on what you believe this is entirely possible, so maybe it wasn't what most folks call a 'dream'. Anyway, one memory from 2, and then from 3 onwards.
Funnily enough, the older I get the more I remember from childhood.

Oh, and for those of you who have kids and want them to be able to read without relying on the education system to 'teach' them for you, do yourself a favor and hunt down some Golden Books like Begle1's. Golden Books are the best!!!!!

My mom was sick or in the hospital, and my dad was in the kitchen in the evening, baking a pie from scratch (from memory!), cleaning up after himself as he went as he always did, and I came in to the kitchen, and he let me help by "doing the dishes". He filled the already clean sink with fresh warm water and Joy dish soap (I can still see the yellow bottle), make it all bubbly and gave me a spoon and pie pan and let me have a lot of fun "helping"! I was 2or 3 at the most. That's one of my earliest and best memories!

It will have been 6 years this December since my dad died. Love you Dad!

actually thinking back at time frames, I remember being there when my sister was born (yes they brought me in for the whole thing) but all I remember from it was standing next to my grandfather and watching him stand up real straight and put his hands in his pockets, so I did the same.

I would have just turned 3 at that point.

I REMEMBER WHEN MY UNCLE DICK HAMMERED & CHISELED ON A BIG ROUND ROCK FOR THREE DAYS AND MY AUNT ASKED HIM WHAT IT WAS CALLED.

Crazy. You start thinking about it and scenes start to emerge from your long forgotten past. Like learning to walk, my great great grandfather George, steeping on a bee, that stupid poodle, my first snow, that terrifying hurricane that came into the Bay area.

How Far Back Does Your Memory Go??

Used to have a great memory until my third ied. I think. Haha. Sometimes I forget what my birthday is. And I'm only 23.

Bucket Truck 10-03-2011 08:17 PM

I remember when i was 3 following dad out in the pasture on a cold morning after our english bulldog "Lady" went missing. She was about to have puppies and dad was worried because it was January. We found her and she had had her puppies. She had alot, i think 9 or 10, but a few of them had already froze to death. I can remember like snapshots earlier being in the crib and my room but this is probably my first step by step memory.
