Your prescription will likely have to be posted in The Badlands....

Sounds like a bacterial infection. The phlem and mucus are the bodies way of expelling the bacteria. The throat pain sounds like the left gland in your throat is inflammed due to the infection. The ear ache is most likely associated with infected fluid behind the ear drum.

Did the Dr. not tell you the nature of the infection/problem. If not, I would definitely find another doc. Also, there are much better antibiotics out there than penicillin.

Good luck.

Can you tell I used to practice law? :s:

Sounds like an infected left ear. Did the doc see anything in there? The eustacian tube could have been plugged and now with the antibiotics it could be draining and giving a little sore throat along with it. The ear inf. is probably the cause of the headache as well. You could take some benadry and try and dry some of the drainage up. Take the abx for the course. If not better in 7-10 days, have it rechecked.
Could very well be a virus as well and the abx will do nothing. Just have to wait it's course and treat the symptoms. Tylenol or Motrin for aches and pains, and benadry as mentioned. It will help you sleep too:)
