Well, me and my john deere fell off my tailgate today.. .ramps slipped out...
 

This is something out of a movie, and I KNEW I shoulda had my gf recording it.


So I am unloading my 1975 John Deere 200, about 800lbs w/out the snow blower, and I'm not gonna lie, unloading an 800lb tractor on an f250 w/ a 6" lift w/ only 91" ramps, is pretty damn scary. So the first time I was going super slow, and I noticed the ramps had started backing away from the tailgate. So I slowly started going back up the truck (the rears where about 6" on the ramps). I got to the top, realigned the ramps, and figured I was going too slow. So I went a bit faster. All of a sudden, w/ my front tires still on the tailgate, I feel the tractor falling and I hear the right side ramp bounce off the pavement. Awwww shit, I'm thinking. So I buck up and grab the steering wheel for dear life, debating whether or not I'm gonna make a jump for it. Next thing I know, the tractor is doing a wheelie straight up and down in the air for what seems like eternity, and since the tractor is still in reverse, it jumps backwards and the front end slams down on top of the ramp. I get off the tractor, laughing my balls off, then quickly look around to see if my gf is looking. She's not in site. Good. So I dislodge the ramp from under the tractor, find my gf crouching beside her van, and I tell her I just fell off the damn truck. She had noted that she had seen me fall off. I walk away, and a few mins later I find her again. I asked if she saw EVERYTHING, to which she replied yes. I walk away, about to start the lawn, when I go and find her again. I ask if she saw the look on my face, and she replied yes. I asked what I looked like, and she just busted out in laughter. I walked away and did the lawn.


So the moral of the story is, dont drive tractors off the back of lifted trucks w/ short ramps!


EDIT: later on I had asked what my face looked like while falling off. My gf said "Like you were having a blast".

tie the ramps to the truck next time......dur dur dur hahahaha

Called my cousin. Apparently the reason my ramps came w/ 2 ratchet straps is so I can ratchet the ramps to the bumpers. Oopsies.

we make ties with aircraft cable and hook them on the tail gate latch pins on each side. just some wire cable clamps and cable is all you need.

I always back the truck up to a hill or in a ditch so no ramps involved

I just run a short rope with S hooks between my ramps and the chain hookups on the hitch-learned that after I dropped my quad off the back end rolling it out.

Or at least find a hill or ditch that will make the angle of the ramps closer to level.I know when loading a snowmobile theres a snowbank around somewhere to make it easy,so hope you dont live in flatlands with no hill around.

Unfortunately, where I live and my gf lives, it's flat. Out by my parents there are tons of hills and ditches etc.. but not here.

Ya after I called my cousin he's like "I told your dumbass to use ratchet's between the ramps and the bumper!". He probably did, just not recently... oopsies.

Like I said above, no ditches or hills around here. Kinda sucks because thats what I'd rather use. It's scary as hell being that high up on those ramps!

Is there any way you could find some one that has an IQ higher than a turtle to unload the tractor next time so nothing happens?
