Snap On Tools

Who here has alot of tools and is it just me or is it hard not to buy their shit? lol and which tools do you have?

Cutterw 05-14-2011 11:01 PM

I have 90% snap-on, 10% Craftsman.....I wonder why I'm broke. O yea, did I mention Monday they become 90% useless. Now I know why only I touch my truck when working on it, bring use to thy tools :w2:

I sold my tool box but it was the roll cab double bank and I still kept tools in my truck while at school, now i regret selling it although I got more than I paid for it....:jump:

BIGREDGOAT 05-14-2011 11:04 PM

lol i have a few, and i am ordering more tomorrow lol. i bought the impact, and i love it!!!!

12vcummins96 05-14-2011 11:06 PM

i have snap on matco and craftsman

RAW 05-14-2011 11:17 PM

90-95% Snap-On. I can't afford to be 3 hours from a tool store and have something break.
The latest MG series of Impacts are amazing. The MG35(3/8"), and MG735(1/2") are unreal torque. I am a little disappointed with the MG1200 (3/4"). I also have the 1/2" Cordless impact and use it a lot. For removing a dozen bolts, or a belly pan, it is way quicker and cleaner then firing up the air compressor and dragging out the hose.
Flank Drive Plus wrenches have saved my a$$ a few times. The special grooves in the open end of the wrench really grip the nut/bolt.

BIGREDGOAT 05-14-2011 11:30 PM

yes i have the cordless electric and love it. i swear it seems to hammer better than air impacts lol plus its quieter

LORDDiESEL 05-14-2011 11:31 PM

I use them all. MAC, snap-off, crapsman, master crap, stanly, Gearwrench ratchets, IR, AIR CAT, and so on.

gunman41mag 05-15-2011 08:46 AM

I have mostly CRAFTMAN, then I also have PROTO, SK, HUSKY, STANLEY, very little SNAP-ON & MAC, But now when I buy a tool here & there I buy the cheap MASTER brand:humm:

Little Luke 05-15-2011 09:48 AM

I had all craftsman.... then they were stolen, I priced snap on and blue point.....but spending all my truck money on tools would leave me broke as a joke. So, I'm sporting stanley, because the walmart is 10 minutes away, and anywhere to get craftmans or cobalt are about an hour away, and wally world is open 24 7.

Pyro690 05-15-2011 11:58 AM

I have mostly Craftsman. Nearest Sears is like an hour away, but I have 2 or 3 of the tools I use the most. If I need something quick, I usually can find it somewhere or make something. :c:

farmingsthelife 05-15-2011 07:28 PM

100 percent craftsman. My dad who has been a mechanic for over 30 years also is 100 percent craftsman.

That's great, but there is one big problem now...

A lot of it's made in china now and it's JUNK!

20 years ago.. I was 15 and dropped 2,000 bucks at sears to load up my tool box for the very first time. It was all made in the USA. I still have it all today and works awesome. I've used some of the newer china craftsman and it is just crap! The teeth on their ratchets bind and chatter. Their wrenches do not fit nuts and bolts worth chit and if you do get a grip on one and give it some torque, the jaws flex the wrench.

It's sad to see them sell out like that.

big bad diesel 416 05-15-2011 11:50 PM

lots and lots of snap-on just bought a sweet box about 2 months ago

I have them and mac

for impacts I use 3/8 and 1/2 mac guns 3/4 and 1in CAT

97cummins 05-16-2011 02:15 AM

95% cornwell/5%craftsman. Snap-on here is a bit pricey. And i've been using the same cornwell dealer for almost 10 years.

I'm fifteen and about to drop money in to tools, (I only have about 200 dollars in sockets and a ratchet) I guess I shouldn't get craftsman stuff if I need it to last....

And yeah, I thought they still made good stuff being almost all my dad's tools are originals..

Selling out sucks:td:

daveO 05-16-2011 01:18 PM

I have mostly Craftsman, and while I don't use them EVERY day, I use them a lot, and haven't had much of a problem. In fact, I've broken more Snap-On sockets than Craftsman ones. Although, the one thing that I learned to stay far away from is Craftsman power tools. They just don't cut it.

farmingsthelife 05-16-2011 03:05 PM

Is Chicago Pneumatic any good?

Buy some S&K socket sets and splurge on a Snap-On Ratchet to throw in the box.

My tools are mostly snap on with a few cheap Napa brand stuff I needed in a hurry. Around here that is pretty much the only options you have unless you drive about an hour.
That and the stupid Snap-On guy stops at work once a month. The only time I don't spend money when that happens is if I'm gone.

And x4,5,6 or whatever on the Snap on Cordless impact being bad ass.

farmingsthelife 05-17-2011 05:35 AM

who makes good wrenches?

I love my gear wrenches. My favorite impact is the IR Titanium. It's big bucks though.

kazairl 05-17-2011 10:40 AM

Gear wrenches are awesome. The only thing I don't like about them is they have no offset. Their ratchets aren't bad either.

farmingsthelife 05-17-2011 02:39 PM

Gearwrenches are so expensive though (welcome to the world of tools I guess.)
Trying to save up and buy the big set of Metric and Standard at once so I can get a better deal.

Diesel Powered Rocket 05-19-2011 03:46 PM

Large Snap-On roller cab top and bottom filled with 95-97% Snap-on Tools. :c:

GearWrench has many different flavors of wrenches. They have reversible ones with offset, straight ones that aren't reversible (you flip them over instead of flipping a lever), horizontally flexible ones, vertically flexible ones, stubby ones, half-moon ones, S-wrench ones, et cetera.

I think they're all made in either China or Taiwan. I have probably around $1000 worth of them. I bought them because I got a set for Christmas and wanted to fill it out, and they were cheaper than Snap-Ons. They have a lot of steel in them and are very strong; I had my 5/16's bent more than 45 degrees one time with a big cheater bar and I never broke one. But just because everybody sells them with a lifetime warranty, not everybody will warranty one unless you can prove you bought it from them. I bought mine from my old Snap-On man, he said he'd only replace the ones I bought from him.

Every company makes some crappy tools. My Spanish Snap-On vice grips are the most worthless hunks of crap I have in my tool box. As a general mechanic, the most important thing is customer service through a tool truck that'll be there when you need replacements and not screw you over. As a specialist, you need whatever tools work best no matter who makes them and many of the tools you need just don't exist.

I used to work as a mechanic, now I travel working on buzzing boxes in power plants and have to carry less than 40 pounds worth of tools. Brand loyalty wears out fast when you have to lug the crap for thousands of miles... My current recommendations are Wera screwdrivers, Knipex pliers, ChannelLock crescent wrenches, ViceGrips chain wrenches, Bondhus Allen heads, Snap-On ratcheting screwdriver handles, hex extensions and hex bits, Malco and GearWrench ratcheting handles and (old) Klein electrical multitools.

MarineOne 05-20-2011 04:25 AM

Mostly Craftsman, but they're over 10 years old so I don't have to worry about them being cheap Chinese junk.

I also have some S&K (you'll love their warranties when you need them), Snap-On, and Mac Tools .... all in a Kobalt chest and roller box.
