Need a Good Quality TV...Who Makes One??

Just got a Xbox Kinect & all the goodies, but the current TV is to small, so we need to get a larger TV.....will be turning the downstairs game room into a TV room for the Kinect....

Who makes a good quality 40inch TV...that will be great with Xbox games & movies along with HD TV...

Don't want to spend 3 arms a the left nut, but something that's quality without being ubber expensive....

we got a 55inch lg led 1080p tv for like 9ish. I've never seen a picture quite like it. colors and clarity are just amazing

MarineOne 03-29-2011 01:13 AM

Check out Newegg and CostCo for some deals.

Last summer my wife and I picked up a 46 inch Samsung 120Hz 1080p with multiple HDMI inputs, HDTV tuner built in, internet ready and preloaded with apps like NetFlix, etc., for around $1200 so it should be cheaper now. It has the EdgeLit (the entire edge around the TV lights up) and I think it's an LED TV.

Blu-Ray, HDTV, and PS3/XBox graphics are absolutely stunning on this thing. It makes DVD looks like VHS.

I spent several months working for a friend that needed help with his electronics recycling business. I've taken apart 1000's of TV's and none are built like a Sony. They have a great picture as well. I'm also a fan of Samsung and Mitsubishi.

RAW 03-29-2011 07:38 AM

Samsung all the was for this guy. I have had 3 Samsung TV's, and have never had any issues with them. Just upgraded to bigger, or thinner.

As for Sony...:bat:. They may make a decent product, but until their customer service and friendliness of salespeople dramatically improve, I'm leaving that $hit on the shelf.

Since you're gamming, don't buy a PLASMA, I have a SONY XBR BRAVIA 1080:tu:

zaxjax 03-29-2011 09:17 AM

I have all Panasonic's in my house, a 42" LCD, 55" LCD and 60" Plasma - I have no issues with picture quality or sound.

My sons Vizio is a 40" LCD I believe and all he does is gaming. His TV with the HDMI cable looks awesome.

I prefer Plasmas.... Deeper Richer Colors

Check out Consumer Reports... even the high end LEDs don't rate as high as a Plasma.

When you get to the bigger sizes plasma all the way. I love my Samsung plasma. Also have a vizio and a Sanyo I. The camper. The vision is awesome. The Sanyo sucks bad.

Best advice is to hit up a store that has a huge display and find one you like.

Months ago Pioneer made the best Plasma.... since they quit making TV's Panasonic makes the best rated Plasma.

GuyWithA24Valve 03-29-2011 11:14 AM

Get a Sony Bravia :tu:

Diesel Dawgs Performance 03-29-2011 11:33 AM

50" Panasonic VIERA

:c:

Ramprat 03-29-2011 12:45 PM

From what I've found plasma TV's have reliability issues at higher altitudes & some can generate a high pitched whine, since we are at 6K feet ASL think we will skip them for now.

Diesel Dawgs Performance 03-29-2011 03:04 PM

Panasonic rates theirs for use up to 7800 feet.

Ramprat 03-29-2011 06:09 PM

Out of all the LED/LCD TV's we saw and played with today Sharp & Samsung had the best picture/styling & the plasma with the best picture was a Samsung....Really liked how the Sharp plasma looked as far as picture quality.

Think we are going to go with something in the 46 to 55 inch range.....

When I was looking for a flat screen tv, I was told that if you play video games you'll damage the PLASMA TV:humm:

The salesman at Sears & the BX both said Xbox is bad for plasma and can cause problems.

I cant see how having a video system is any worst for a tv then watching a movie... Now if you leave it on pause for 2 hours... ok, but otherwise the TV does not know the differance between a movie and a Xbox...

At least thats my thinking...

My wife spent $3,000 on the 52 inch SONY, & we have a SON that plays video game, I'm not going to take a chance, how much better can a PLASMA be over a LCD:humm:

Ramprat 03-29-2011 10:38 PM

Been researching this.....common thought is for the 1st 48 hours of a plasma tv's live, do not turn it off, turn the contrast down, make sure the size ratio is full screen and let it run for a minimum of 48 hours & 72 is better. As much as 10-15 min on pause or with a set background you can have screen burn in & ghost images, but new technology has way reduced this. Plasma is more fragile than LCD/LED, uses way more power and is quite a bit hotter.

My wife loves watching TV, I don't watch much TV only FOX NEWS, Since I bought some McMILLAN 50 BMG with NIGHTFORCE NXS scopes, I guess the wife felt she can spend some $$$ on a TV:s:, TV lose value, But a McMILLAN 50 BMG will always be worth the $6,000:tu:

crzycummins 03-30-2011 12:45 PM

ive got two samsung 50" plasmas...one in the bedroom and one in the living room. and then in the man cave ive got a projector that puts out an image almost 100"1:choochoo: its freakin bad ass! but i like samsung. there are alot of good brands out there tho. pick one you like and is in your budget.

For me alot. On teh big LCD's when something detailed and fast is happening (lika panning over a crowd during a football game) its gets jerky and pixilated for me. My wife does not see it. Plasma does not do it though. Its like teh Cummins vs Duramax vs Powerstroke debate, when it coem down to it they are both good its what works best for YOU!

As for the games, I've never had a problem but take that for what it is worth.

That is because the "kids" plause the game and it burns a image in the screen.

If you are going to play alot of games the plasma (PS3,WII) is the best.
