I've been challenged

thanks to big bad diesel for getting me on the subject of the transfer tank and linking tanks and whatnot i got into a discussion with my dad on the subject. then he made the mistake of telling me theres no way i could drive 1500 miles without stopping which i figure to be 25-26 hours. Now i not only said i'd do it i said i'd do it pullin 20k behind me. i still think i can do it and i'd have a co-pilot. Who thinks i can do it?

Uncle Bubba 03-27-2011 01:24 AM

I've done 27 hours straight pulling a trailer and only stopping for fuel and several trips through the years of 20 plus hours, but I know I could'nt do it without any stops at all.

Hope I'm not on the same highway as you when you try it.

prison 03-27-2011 01:34 AM

haha yep i'm talking linked tanks totalling approximately 138 gallons. no stopping. packing sandwiches energy drinks and maybe even an inverter with a coffee maker. it'd be after my truck is where i want it to be to do so. air ride captains chairs and all

JKM 03-27-2011 01:51 AM

You can do it ,but you wanna stop by the truck stop and find a trucker willing to sell ya a couple shims :tu: I have done 1800 miles with no sleep, I had to stop for fuel and whatnot. slept for a day and a half after that though.:choochoo:

Dont kill yourself.

prison 03-27-2011 01:54 AM

haha i ain't stoppin by no truck stop lol the whole point is no stops whatsoever. red lights only of course

JKM 03-27-2011 02:18 AM

don't eat anything with fiber in it for a couple days before hand LOL ya cant do #2 in a bottle haha:scare2::scare2:

prison 03-27-2011 02:20 AM

haha i'll just bring some lysol and a pot

Rustin 03-27-2011 03:32 AM

Wish I could get out there and be your copilot! Airprices suck! I would help with a live video documentation! Hour by hour! Even Post it on youtube or ustream for you!

your welcome I think lol

CSIPSD 03-27-2011 01:20 PM

I have a 38 gallon main tank, and a 110 gallon bed tank. I can drive from Colorado to Bend, non stop and drive around for a week in town.

I drove for 38 hours straight from North Carolina to Bend, Or... Stopping for fuel only, pulling a YJ...

Its quite easy.

RSWORDS 03-27-2011 01:21 PM

I've done it empty stopping ony for fuel, if you do this towing 20k your gonna kill yourself. Towing a trailer wears yuo out 2x as fast if your towing it right. You would also be an idiot for not stoping to check the load, tires, pressures, and bearings. Don't do it man, for your saftey and others.

you make a good point. that one i didnt consider

cumminscontrol 03-27-2011 01:51 PM

when i was pullin hotshot i had a 143 gallon fuel tank off a freightliner, plus the 36 gallon tank thats on the truck linked together, gravity feed...i did put a ball valve in line tho so i could shut the big tank off if i wanted too....i could go alllooonnnggg way on 179 gallon :tu:

prison 03-27-2011 01:58 PM

i guess at 3 a.m. i wasnt thinkin about checkin the load

CSIPSD 03-27-2011 02:31 PM

I would clarify the "challenge" a bit...

You need to stop from time to time to check tires, connections and load... Other then that, its very easily done.

prison 03-27-2011 03:25 PM

ok so i'll make an ammendment to it with limited time load checks only

RSWORDS 03-27-2011 04:00 PM

Amendment two, you get tired pull over and sleep. No amount of time is worth your life... Worse yet no amount of time is worth someone elses. You think you could live with yourself if you fell asleep or in your tired state, you did something stupid, or reacted to late and killed someone or a whole family?

I have done the 24 hour thing, more time then I have donr it though I've pulled over halfway for a nap.

Woody35 03-27-2011 04:22 PM

idk why you woudnt want to stop a few times. even only for a few minutes. i know my ass falls asleeps every 500 miles or so. i like stopping for that reason.

well ya see it's big bad diesel's fault. i merely mentioned to my dad that with 138 gallons i wouldnt have to stop for fuel and waste time. which turned into not stopping at all. my ass falling asleep would be the reason for the nicest seats possible

RSWORDS 03-27-2011 04:40 PM

Not trying to bust your balls man. It can be done, but you would be a fool to do it. Stop every 6 hours and check the rig out walk around the truck a few times, some jumping jacks maybe. If you feel you need to stop more do so.

Maybe you dad in that parental wisdom knows what he is talking about.... :c:

TeckJohn 03-27-2011 05:00 PM

Ive done it several times with an L shaped 95 gallon gravity fed tank. But only when going towards my nice soft bed @ home and have been fla to wash oregon calif and only got 1000 miles with a loaded trailer @ an average of 10 MPG and always hunt for the cheapest fuel to fill it up all the way on. Dont rely on your memory when driving long hours to remember where fuel was cheap. WRITE IT DOWN!!! LOL and u always want to check your load to be safe and it can be done in between 16 and 22 hours for a 1000 mile trip without fuel. you can only go 1500 without fuel empty, only with a programmer can you do it loaded and u must have 3:73 gears not 4:10

cumminscontrol 03-27-2011 07:32 PM

one time when i did it, i dozed off...saw a 50 mph speed limit sign on interstate and slammed braked on...just woke up and saw it..a big truck was up ahead of me :scare2: i thought it was a dump truck that pulled over in my lane and said stay back 500 ft...but it wasnt, it was the damn speed limit sign and a truck up ahead...i knew it was time to pull over for awhile after that

Make the deal with your dad, as you can't stop for fuel, but if you need to sleep, eat or use the bathroom you'll stop:tu:

oh yeah. i take my truck and anything it is attatched to seriously. i'd rather admit i can't do something than at the very least wreck my truck and at worst kill myself and others. there's not a point to be proven that is worth any of that
