Your dream shop!
Just thought this might be a fun/cool thread.
Just give a good description of what your dream shop would be! Make this a good one! I thinkin a 4 bay shop for the daily drivers, and room to work on them connected to a shop big enough to store the trailers and have enough room to turn around a truck with at least about a 36 foot trailer. Also equipped with a 2 clean rooms and living quarters. The whole shop being heated and air conditioned. Air compressor housed outside in its own building, along with a stationary generator mounted in its own building feeding the house and shop. |
Your dream shop!
Building mine..... Have the shell done, 40x60x16 pole building. 14x7 and 16x16 door on one gable end and 10x12 door on one side. Don't have the doors yet as the bids I got were around 6 grand... Going to pour the floor later this year with hydronic heat..... Will have it's own 400 amp service (single phase) service, cuz you can never have too much power..... A lift eventually, plumed everywhere.. An upstairs in one half for either an apartment or maybe just storage. That is the reason for the 7' door. And then fill it with toys. :-) wish it was done, but it's being finished in stages as I can find the cash.....
Ah! See i forgot to mention the lift!
2 giant bays with plenty of room around to work for all equipment and tools. couple large storage rooms and an upstairs office/hang out room with large fridge for beer and a nice sized bar. also a nice surrond sound audio system with ipod hook up
Well since we're dreaming here, I'd like something
fully equipped, and about the size of an airport hanger. Be a while before I managed to run out of room. :tu: |
lol Well i guess that works!
And a couple of Hooter's girls for decoration and fetching drinks.
It'd involve beautiful psychic women that would do exactly what I'd want to do to my truck before I knew what I wanted to do.

And in bikinis. With safety boots. Because you can't ever be too safe. |
mine be size of that hanger just got done working on at hunter army airfield, have four lifts on on side have a paintbooth beside that & covering the wall on the other side one gaint flat screen tv with playboy bunnies as movie attendents or they could turn the xbox 360 on for me & get my beer for me,the upstairs would have two rooms, one for living & the other one would have a hot tub,id also have one of every engine engine part & tool stocked in the garage at all times

100'x50'x16'
at least 2 lifts 80 gallon compressor (dedicated external room) with fittings every 20 feet around the perimeter an apartment at one end at the top 14x10 doors in the center at each end built on top of 10 40' containers all open along one side of the shop Thats the basics of it |
A huge place fully furnished with tools, at least 3 lifts and a brass pole from floor to ceiling right in the center:yeah:
Oh! Im throwin in a carwash!
Better toss a room in there for a fab shop that has a cnc machine and turbo balancing table...:tu:
If we are balancing turbos i want a injector and injection pump test benches!
Your dream shop!
I was thinking far too literal..... But I want a four wheel dyno while we are at it.....
Dont forget the wheel mounting equiptment and the wireless front end alignment machinery.
Good point. Also need a good tig/stick, mig welders, lathe, and mill. Need some other odds and ends to go with them too.
And a paint booth. You gotta have that, too.
I think I had my dream shop already.
I rented a so called LOX (Liquified oxygen) bunker at the local military airport with three bays. Each pair of the steel doors were 1.6to heavy and no windows in the 25 inch thick walls. So it was pretty much theftproof and safe for the tools. It was nice and comfortable during summer heat but barely heatable during the winter. I used two 30.000 Btu propane heaters to get some warmth into it. I used one bay for storage and mounted a 1 ton moveable professional electric crane into the middle bay. Which was cool because I lifted the camper trailer under the roof when not in use. The sad thing was there was no lift- but I still have my engine hoist which is still ok fore me. So in the future I would never go without an electric crane- its a must have. The sad thing is that I need 400V to operate the crane which is not that easy to get in public appartment garages. |
What everybody else said but plus a good collection of diesel trucks to wrench on :tu:
That way I could drive a PowerStroke one week, Cummins the next, then Dmax, then a CAT, and so on :choochoo: |
Na! Ill just take my pick of several old Cummins and a couple Duramaxes. lol
Na I gotta have at least a 94-97 7.3 PowerStroke, overall favorite diesel truck ever.
id have a bar in mine to:c:
Cmon fellas. we are dreaming right? lets get an injection mold to manufacture all the parts needed as in blocks heads injectors and tips turbo's and lets make an aluminum head for the 6.7 cummins so we can keep it cool like u have to do the small block chevy 400's with the steam holes and then we can stop blowing gaskets and all the other suggestions above LOL
You guys are freaking crazy. The only way I want an injection molder, 7-axis CNC machine, paint booth and four wheel dyno is if I have six guys on salary using them... But that isn't a garage or shop anymore, it's a performance fabrication business. I don't want a performance fabrication business.
I'd really, really rather have a garage with a really nice car and truck that are just how I want them and never break. :s: |
I'd have to hire a maid to keep it all dust free and I dont want a business... just a few friends to help work on my toys for tool rental. I would like a 6.7 with the aluminum head to be quiet and to be mechanical like the old cummins 400 with a fuel pump u change the button in to get more fuel and mechanical injectors
