6.2 In A Chevy S10?

I am thinking about doing a conversion at some point in my 1988 S10 would a 6.2 engine work? There are little electronics on that engine Right?
Logan what do think? anyone else? I seen some where a guy did a 6.2 swap in a S10, just can't find it. What Kind of mileage could I expect, and what all would have to be swaped, engine , trans transfer case?

6.2 with either a 700R4 or a 4L80E with the stand alone computer from the diesel vans or the 2 years the trucks came with, i cant remember the years, look over on diesel place, i am going to use the 4L80E in my Burb with the stand alone, my dad was averaging 17mpg in our turbo 400/4.10 3/4 ton suburban all the way to NC this week at 70 mph, in a light truck like that your looking ATLEAST 25 with an overdrive and axle gearing, the tranny and t-case are going to be long......you might want to start thinking axle swap........its gonna be hard to keep the IFS alive under that much weight........

I would do a 4 cylinder cummins.

That is the way I would like to go but it looks like it would be more money.

LOGANSTANFORTH 11-30-2007 08:09 PM

true but probably ALOT easier swap cause you can find 4BT's with turbo 400's pretty easy....

redneckbuckeye 11-30-2007 09:01 PM

what is the difference in weight engine and tranny?

bow2no1 11-30-2007 09:14 PM

gm also made a 4.3 diesel that.. i have been told the are a way better diesel then the 350 diesels... the 4.3 diesel is not the same as a 4.3 gasser! unlike the 350's

also i thought a 4:53 detroit would make a good conversion for a s10

LOGANSTANFORTH 11-30-2007 09:14 PM

probably gonna be a little lighter with the 4BT....maybe the same

DBogo 11-30-2007 09:43 PM

those 4.3 diesels are really hard to find

bow2no1 11-30-2007 10:16 PM

i got one... well i think so. i supposed to pick it up but i havn't got around to it. it was a free bee low milage too.. check ebay i think they came in oldsmobiles and caddys
i have also seen themin our local swap and sell it guide.

LOGANSTANFORTH 11-30-2007 10:48 PM

just build a hot 4.3 with a blower and be done with it, that will be fun enough......

what a gasser? thats about the only way yer gonna get power from a blower.

LOGANSTANFORTH 11-30-2007 11:12 PM

youve never messed with gas motors much have ya??.........

bow2no1 11-30-2007 11:27 PM

366 block,8 250 rods, 427 crank and 350 pistons..

thats our build. thats our claim to fame 1st built here st.george machine shop.
only 1 built and trying to gather the parts for and

i don't ger yer point i guess..
after all we are on a diesel forum talking diesel conversions

LOGANSTANFORTH 11-30-2007 11:31 PM

and your gonna do what with that??? put it in a grain truck??? cause that is where about 3/4 of those parts came from........

actually no, were in everything automotive, diesels conversions is more at the top of the main page........

bow2no1 11-30-2007 11:37 PM

nope it's in a 71 camero. for a cheap build it goes pretty good.
after all they where all common parts that people don't really care about..
the 1st one was built form spare parts for around the shop. stroked tall deck big block and cheep to boot

LOGANSTANFORTH 11-30-2007 11:44 PM

i would of used a 427 tall deck and bored it 60 over, those makes some good inches, if you fill them solid you can take them 125 over, only good for 300 foot passes naturally aspirated......alot of these guys still run them as motors.......

bow2no1 11-30-2007 11:48 PM

some where there was a guy that converted a 3208 cat to a gasser and it made wicked HP if i recall!

LOGANSTANFORTH 12-01-2007 02:37 PM

was it gas or alcohol????
