High Idle Is Kickin Today

It must be cold out, just went out to start the truck for the first time today and the high idle is screamin on it. Didn't feel that cold but the truck never lies. Oh well, it'll be toasty in about 5 minutes.

how cold it gotta get for this to work?

DangerousDuramax 11-23-2007 04:14 PM

Yep, this was the first day that mine kicked on. I'm in Brownwood (central Texas) at the ranch and it was right at freezing this morning. On the DMax the ECM has to see that the coolant temp is below 150* and the AAT is below 35*. Not sure what they set it to on the Cummins.

I tried a Smarty this summer....now my high idle is kicking in and I dont want it to. No need for it since I have an exhaust brake and a high idle switch.

Wonder if I can remove it?

I was thinking about adding a high idle and turbo timer.

I'd love to find it in one box. Any advice?

LOGANSTANFORTH 11-23-2007 05:25 PM

it got horrible cold this morning, dropped way down in the upper 60's......

Yea I know Logan it's terrible here. I think we got down to 55.

Uncle Bubba 11-23-2007 10:08 PM

We were in the twenties last night, but it was in the high 40's all day. I just figured it would have been warmer from sittin in the sun all day. Guess not.

don't know what the kick in temp is set at myself.

LOGANSTANFORTH 11-24-2007 06:28 AM

if it gets below 60 i got to plug in the 6.2, makes it nice to start right up and have warm air....

I know what you're talking about logan. If it gets below 40 the ol' cummins is kinda sluggish to start up with one battery. So I plug her in and she fires right up with warm air. I can start up from well below freezing but then I have to run for a few miles in second to keep the rpms up and get it warm faster.
