Heres My Jeep Thing

but I dont care.
I got a wheeler for 900
the specs

84 CJ5 I think I'm not sure but I thought the CJ7s had a d44 somewhere and these axles look like d30s or something. this is my first jeep.

2" AAL
1" shackles
SPOA
35s
4.2 straight 6 that purrs like a kitten

http://www.truckporn.com/pics/albums...l_dcp_0522.jpg

http://www.truckporn.com/pics/albums...l_dcp_0523.jpg

my plans are to take the 2" AAL in the rear out as it sits 3" higher in the rear and flexes like crap. the rear shocks are not correct and have no upwards travel. So I will either make them work and relocate or get the right ones
spool in the rear.
green rattle can paint job.
off road lights
maybe some custom bumpers.
replace the side windows on the hard top or get a soft top

and thats pretty much it.
it will be a property deer recovery tool/bomber

Uncle Bubba 11-23-2007 03:09 PM

Looks like a great buy for twice the money you spent. Nice find.

From personal experience I'd leave the topper just like it is. It's like that for a reason. Once you fix it, the first time you get into any trees, brush or rocks it's gonna look just like it does now. The sides of this truck are gonna take a beatin, that's just the way it is no matter how carefull you are.

Nitelord 11-23-2007 03:30 PM

Nice toy. Enjoy...:U:

Mr. Miyagi 11-23-2007 03:31 PM

You got that for 900 bucks?

I hate you bad, really really bad.

That vintage of Jeep probably has a Dana 30 front and a AMC Model 20 rear. The Model 20 has tapered axles so if you have a castle nut out at the brake drum end instead of a flange and a completely round cover on the housing, it's a 20....You can buy one piece flanged shafts and make it stronger than a 44, for the record.

In 1986--last year of the CJ--the 7's had a Dana 44 rear end, IIRC.

Nice Jeep, if it's halfway solid it's worth ~$5,000 up here in the northwest.

GRI 11-23-2007 04:00 PM

the frame is solid. the guy before me welded new floor pans in but other than that it is solid and no serious rust.

I thought about reselling it but it is perfect for what I need.

Dr. Evil 11-23-2007 04:43 PM

That is sweet....that would be 3 or 4 times the price here.

LOGANSTANFORTH 11-23-2007 05:26 PM

pull that diamond plate off the rocker and there will probabyl be rust if it was in the floorpans....

GRI 11-23-2007 05:47 PM

yes there is rust there. like every other jeep of that vintage. but other than that it is real clean.

LOGANSTANFORTH 11-23-2007 05:48 PM

what makes it nice, if you fix it, those are sooooo easy to weld in.

GRI 11-23-2007 05:52 PM

yeah but it isnt going to be for show. I'd hate to spend the time welding in new metal when it will get trashed. but If I ever decided to redo it it would be easy.
I want to change the transfer case and tranny (manual) fluids. do they just take 80 90 or something else?

LOGANSTANFORTH 11-23-2007 08:28 PM

yeah probably, i would check though, you could always "boatside" it when you cut them out, ALOT of extra clearance when ya do that.

toy4xchris 11-23-2007 08:40 PM

thats not a bad rig kinda wanna build a jeep but cant afford another project even one for $900 man good luck with it

LOGANSTANFORTH 11-23-2007 08:55 PM

4bt, 4 link, 60 front, 14 bolt rear, stak 3 speed case, th400 or np435 ford.....

Whit 11-23-2007 09:15 PM

good catch man............looks like fun

GRI 12-17-2007 09:03 PM

some guy asked me this morning if I'd sell it for $3K. I told him money talks.

he shows up tonight with a $3K check!

sold MOFO!

Johnny Cetane 12-18-2007 07:58 AM

How the :edit: did I miss this thread???

The Jeep you sold was a CJ7. You can always tell a 7 from a 5 because a 7 will have square door bottoms where the doors on a 5 follow the rear wheel arch.

Anyway, this new one looks really sweet. It's ugly and it's built. You really don't need much else. :up2:

GRI 12-18-2007 08:03 AM

yeah looks werent really what I was after but I just talked to the guy with the CJ5 and trailer.

$2300 for the trailer and jeep to my door. the guy is going to deliver it to me. Fin awesome!
the truck does have a windshield doors and bikini top.

Now I'm siked!

CumminsCrazed 12-18-2007 10:16 AM

if that trailer is nice i might be interested in it GRI, once ya get it send some pics and i will look it over. Need a trailer for my drag truck

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

I used to have a CJ-7, it was an 84 with a Camaro Z28 350 in it that i built up and had about 360 hp. Mated to a TH350 with a shift kit etc. D300 t-case with an AMC 20 rear and Dana 30 front. Dual exhaust with super turbo mufflers and walked all over mustang GTs, as well as chirping the tires all the way into 3rd gear whenver i wanted it to. If anyone wants pics i got em!

its funny you say drag truck. the guy said he got it from someone that raced drag cars. he said the back end of the trailer is wider to fit the wide tires on a drag car.
he said is was custom made and built good. he said he thinks its a 12k trailer.

I think he posted dimensions and pictures. hold on I'll see if I can dig them up

CumminsCrazed 12-18-2007 10:20 AM

awesome, how much would ya want for it GRI? Assuming it meets my standards LOL

GRI 12-18-2007 10:21 AM

its 13-1/2' long
its 6' wide
inside of rails to inside of rails is 51"

has chains, 4 prong plug for lights, two ramps (that bolt to the deck)

crappy pictures

any idea how wide the front decks are for the tires? My drag truck currently has 275/60R15 sized tires on it now, which i have no clue what that converts to, i just dont want tire edges sitting or rubbing on those side rails of the decks

Outer Diameter: 27.99 "
Section Width: 10.82 "
Rim Size: 15"

GRI 12-18-2007 03:03 PM

I just emailed the guy to see if he had an idea. he said the iroks are hanging over the edge by 1 inch and they are 13.5" wide so I'm sure the 275 will have some room.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

he said he is pretty sure that they are at least 12" wide

Well after I finally blew the motor after 7 years of running the piss out of it, there was a time in my life that $$ was tight and I had no shop to work in so it sat outside for a whole year throught the winter and the paint was faded and had some scratches/dings from years of abuse, then the motor came out and well I decided to rebuild the whole truck did a frame off .. had to make some changes shaved the cab cowl, drip edges, door locks, stake pockets, fuel door.. changed the hood and put a hard cover on for a new look

heres the link to the rebuild was totally dismantled and blasted every nut and bolt replaced

ya Russ and his 40's... he will never live that down, way to many molsons and water baloons that day:w2:

LeadfootDuramax 12-21-2007 01:52 PM

The only thing to keep in mind is that your drag truck prob has wider axles than the CJ. I would just go measure the width from the outer edges of your tires and then check that against the trailer.
