Chainsaws
Im in the market for a new chainsaw since my 044 stihl was stolen and my pos little husky gave up. Ive done the research on specs and stuff but want to know what different people thought of them or any issues with them.anybody have or used a husky 395xp or maybe stihl 066 or any other big saws you have used?? i think im sticking with stihl or husky tho
I love my 044 and my 066 but I have never been as impressed as I am with the 441 stihl. Light weight and more power than my 044. You will like it and the price tag is right!
MS 441 STIHL Magnum Chain Saw - Fuel Efficient Professional Chain Saw | STIHL :rocking: |
we have a husquervarna farm hand (not sure on the actual specs on it) and i absolutely love it i've cut through a 3 ft thick tree with it with no problem at all
I havent really looked into the 441 yet but i like the weight to power ratio.I really liked using the 066 it was a litte heavy but i loved my 044 i just wanted more power.Im really leaning on this husqvarna 395xp with a 42" oregon bar,24" carlton and a spinner/breaker for 600 bucks
I like the Husky. Only thing I don't like is the blades dull quick. Must be all the mesquite. :w2:
I love my husky 372 with a big bore kit. Heres a pic when it was new like 1 1/2 years ago with my ever faithful 345.

I use a junky Poulin Pro for limbing, and my husky for cutting and sectioning.
that 372 sure is purdy. i think im gunna get the 395xp I want to give a big husky a try theyre way cheaper than still for the same size saw and have a bit more power to weight ratio
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- ive always used stihl skiptooth chains they make a chain called dura something it has carbide and will last a lot longer in dirty wood or mesquite |

I have had excellent luck with my husky has been a great saw
I have used both stihl and husky logging over the years and would choose stihl. They are both great saws but the stihl just out performs the husky and that's why almost all the timber fellers in the pacific northwest use stihl
I think Stihl are the best of the two.
Its hard to beat the stihls but husky are damn good too. I like the 441 stihl and i love my 056 for falling big trees
I actually just went to the stihl dealer today.I priced a 460 with a 32" for $959..Not as bad as I thought it was going to be.Ive been looking for a husqvarna 288xp I hear theyre legendary
I've used Jonsered for 20 years. Course being from Maine, I don't know much about cuttin' wood:w2:
They are also great saws same as dolmar, solo and shindaiwa. But only thing is i dont really know where id find a dealer for those brands, like parts availability
Are you In washington? there is a full line shindiawa dealer in Loon Lake just north of spokane
yes new to the state so I dont quite know my way around yet.but I mapquested that and its a 6hr drive:nope: But Im sure there are closer dealers for those brands or just order online but i like that there is a stihl dealer about 10 minutes from where i live:yeah:
Theres 20 shindiwa dealers on your side of the state
I always hear good stuff about their trimmers and landscaping products are untouchable.but ive never heard anything on the saws ill have to look into it
From the looks of them and what i have heard they are very good saws and i think they are pretty reasonable price wise as well
sthil 440 magnum i love my saw.
we owen have been useing sthil for year 046 066 441. They are really great saws. Its the only saws we have had to last when using them 6 days a week.
I have an old 65 husky and a 2071 jonsered that I really like but find them heavy for trail cutting, going to buy a little 2049 for trail cutting and use the 71 for junking fire wood:tu:all the dealers are within 15 minutes from me for most of the major brands
Im thinking about shindaiwa but the only thing that has me undecided is cause its made in japan...but its most likely that ms460 unless i find that 288xp..anyone modify their saws for performance like porting, machining cylinder base for squish?

Stihl 044/440 is my favorite saw of all time, I also have a big bore 066 and you just cant beat the power. I think you need one of these though... :rocking:
I was thinking about the 660,but I don't really need thaat much power.I only want to run a 28" bar and that extra 2lbs will kill me over the whole day of luggin it around
Do some research on a Dolmar 7900, if you dont mind doing a little work you can get a used Makita 6401 from Home Depot for under $200 if you get lucky. Then put a 7900 top end on it. People say more power than an MS460 with less weight than a 440
wow Im very impressed with this saw with the mod.baileys sells the saw new with the big bore kit as an option.I really think i will go with this setup.cheaper, lighter, same or more power win win right? Thanks Hyde:tu:
No problem, Im pretty die hard Stihl but it seems like an awesome setup for someone that isnt.
what are your opinion on Husqvarna 455 rancher i have one of those also have a stihl 028 wood boss
I've never used a 455 but my smaller sized saw is a husky 55 which is the model the 455 replaced.its a great saw and has alot of power for what it weighs. i ported the muffler and the cylinder on mine and threw some new rings on it and they can really keep up
