Any Plumbers.. Roots In Sewer
 

any plumbers in here know how to get tough roots out of the sewer without digging it up???

heavy duty snake can't cut through them..

Unfortunatly it is out in the street and the city feels that it is the homeowners responsibility on the lateral... Trying to save about 10K here...

Everything on the house side of the meter is on the homeowner, from the meter to the lake is the water dept.

If you have tried the big Auger with the root head on it, the next step is to call the roto-Rooter guys. It's rare that they cant get it taken care of. If they can it's time to rent a back hoe.

Also forgot to mention that if the roots are this big through the line already, cuttin them out is only gonna buy you some time. They will regrow through the line again in pretty short order.

If you cut them out then you'll need to remove the source. I had the same problem here in Florida with my citrus trees roots growing into the septic tank and leech field. Man those were some BIG A** oranges. Sixpack

Problem is a city owned tree 2 houses away.. Mine is the 3rd sewer it has got to ... city says trees down't break sewers and there must have been some previous damage allowing a place for the roots to enter.. YEA RIGHT... been fine for 70 years...

Well I poured some copper sulfiade down there tonight... they were able to use an auger and cutting bit to get it partially open but the camera says that I may have to dig it up....

Wanted to use the company back hoe (I'm a certified operator) but since I don't have a million $$$ to put up for a bond I have to hire one.. then hire a million$$$ bonded plumber to do the repair...

Funny thing is I work for the gas utility and dig the city streets all day long... just can't dig my own sewer...

after you get it fixed you can routinely pour a box of salt down the toilet farthest away from the problem and it'll inhibit the growth of roots..... just a little tid bit....

that make sence ... I remember back in the day a neighbor had some nice things written on his lawn in salt.. stayed for a long time...

ya.... it'll kill darn near anything that requires fresh water to live..... there is this stuff i buy locally ..... i can't remember the name of it but it comes in a gallon or qt bottle and is incased in a plastic bag. it's a clear/transparent white bottle with yellow writing..... it states in big letters for professional use only. it is HIGHLY acidic and will eat through almost anything..... it stinks like a Mo-Fo when it starts reacting with the bad stuff and produces an insane ammount of heat...... i'll try to find out what it is and let ya know...... it might work for you..... i spilled some on my garage ramp and it turned the concrete WHITE and it hasn't been cleaned good in prolly 40 or so years.....

will look for it.. I poured alot of some thing down the cleanout that is susposed to kill the roots.. I'll do it once a week for a few weeks then try the root blades again.. maybe it will soften up the roots... Hope so there is so many better things I can do with my money...

Bad part is ti isn't something I can live with... it is a rental property so it has to keep flowing... If it were my house I would just limit the drain usage till the chemicals ate through them...

try some Atrazine, that stuff will kill anything, i do alot of "side" work with leach and drain fields, its pretty easy big money.

atrazine won't kill roots though. I like the rock salt idea. it will kill them then do something to get rid of them.

I have replaced a shit ton of sewer line because of tree roots.......my backhoe stayed very busy and made me alot of money on this...........................be smart and replace the lines now.....................what is yer old line???? please dont tell me orangeburg

Run off isn't gonna kill anything? My driveway really needs a bleaching.

well got a root cutting machine out there and a camera.... after an hour he could not get through the 1 1/2 round root..

I fugured if there was a root in there that big and I did get it out It would just grow back or be a big hole so I had them get the permits and start digging it up yesterday..

replacing it from the sidewalk to the middle of the street.. thing that sucks is the city required clay to go back in.. No ABS in the public street!!! only way around it is we talked the city inspector into allowing us to put 1 1/2 sack slurry around the new pipe for 1 foot on 4 sides.. I know the tree roots woun't get through that.. then we have to do native back up to the top with 95% compaction.

Inspection is tuesday and backfill is wednesday...

Got a pretty goo price $7500.00

Run it through your homeowners insurance Gerry! They should take care of it?
