hubometer

stopped at Flying J this morning to fuel up and thought I'd use the 18 wheeler pumps.

put CC in, entered my zip, then i was prompted for a hubometer number.

the machine didn't like my 11111 entry...

any idea what i should have entered?

I have a hubometer I stole a while ago.

Want it? I'll sell it to you. I think it's operational.

Just put your odometer reading in

Actually it is a hubdometer. Some fleets use these to varify fuel purchased verses miles operated for fuel tax purposes.

exactly what the lady at the cash register said while giving me a real :argh: look.

So why didn't it like the 111,111 input then? That sounds like an odometer reading to me.

They'll sell you fuel still no matter what you do or don't put in, right?

jasonfriedlin 07-12-2010 04:57 PM

The hubometer is probably a weak attempt to keep drivers from stealing fuel, but the hubometer aint goin any farther than the odometer so IDK what its actual purpose is.

For 1 hubometers keep track of milage on trailers, wich are constantly being swapped from one tractor to another. Most fleets require a hub reading any time a vendor performs service work on a trailer.

I can understand that but Ive seen them on tractors too which I always thought was strange. I would like to know why they are there though

So you can check the mileage of the vehicle without climbing inside the cab where Tater the 500 Pounder has been sweating, farting and living for the last 50,000 miles?

I don't yet understand why Flying J is asking for odometer readings on its fill islands, but I have yet to know if anybody wants to buy my hubdometer.

:D

Budgreen 07-13-2010 06:57 AM

wonder if the hubdometer would fit on my trailer :humm:

no idea, i'm going to try it one more time.

i was just waiting for a trucker to yell at me "bouy, you don't belong here!"

JKM 07-13-2010 05:11 PM

some companies need to record the milage for fuel tax purposes, as stated, for the last 5 years , i have been pressing 0 when it asks for mileage , and i write it on the receipt with a pen when i get back in the truck.

Yea you're right most fleets have them on tractors too, I'm not sure if it's just because there more reliable or what the actual reason for that is. :c:

^ Saves the mechanic from getting in the cab when recording maintenance mileage plus, they are tamper proof. You see tham a lot on rental trucks.
