Pressure Washers

Just bought a 1800 psi electric pressure washer today.

Weve got a 2 story house and Im wanting something that will wash the upper level.

Do you guys think I should have went with a gas washer? I really dont want to jack around with a gas engine.

Are the electric washers junk ? What do you think guys?

Uncle Bubba 05-22-2010 11:24 PM

If you bought the same blue washer I did last year, don't remember the brand right now, it's total junk.

Captain Call 05-22-2010 11:26 PM

I have a yellow one and it's pretty good.

Dr. Evil 05-22-2010 11:38 PM

electric I assume?

This is the one - http://www.karcherresidential.com/en...aram2=&param3=

Paid $150 and it was originally $200.

I dunno.

Captain Call 05-22-2010 11:49 PM

mines electric (which is funny seeing as to how it's a WATER pressure washer) :scare2:

akguppy 05-22-2010 11:57 PM

Depends on how dirty the 2nd story is. If you're cleaning siding, you're going to have to erect scaffolding; the 45-60° flat spray nozzles won't clean from too far away. Even with a gas washer. If you just need to blast with the 0° orifice it'll be a toss up between the two.

Dr. Evil 05-22-2010 11:58 PM

:humm: Ok good to know. I guess Im maybe expecting too much??

Begle1 05-23-2010 12:50 AM

You spent $150 for a pump that produces 10 times as much pressure at about the same flow as a pump that Cooling Mist or Snow would sell for the same price. Now you just need an inverter, nitrous solenoid, transfer pump, some good line, high pressure check valve, nozzle and some sort of control system and you'll have one heck of a water injection system.

Dr. Evil 05-23-2010 01:14 AM

Ive got an inverter... :yeah:

Doc- that was wasting money at its finest. the kärchers are ok. the pressure is on the low side beeing enough for a serious car wash.

But if you want pressure- get a Nilfisk! They will blast your paint off without any special nozzles.
I just wanted to clean the underside and it blasted off the under coating.:s:

don't forget that Kärcher has also a commercial line- much more pricey than those K or M models.
Can't you rent a washer? It will run you cheaper than getting a new one.

kbailey 05-23-2010 10:04 AM

We used a Kärcher commercial unit at the grain elevator last month ... that thing had some balls. 13 horse honda engine, 3200 psi, 302 degree heated water ... it was the best pressure washer I've ever used.

I can find Nilfisk vacumes but no pressure washers. Looks like a good product though.

I did read some product reviews and it looks like the electric pressure washers are junk.

Its too expensive to rent - probably $30-50 a day...buying a washer would pay for itself pretty quick.

Thanks guys. :c: :c:

Begle1 05-23-2010 08:45 PM

For a lot of jobs, you don't want that much pressure... Washing cars for example, 1000 PSI is plenty. Anything over that and you're just begging to turn a little dimple in the paint into a flake in the paint.

Dr. Evil 05-23-2010 09:25 PM

Yes, thats true. But I tend to think the pumps on the gas jobbies seem to be built much better than the electric ones.

Begle1 05-23-2010 09:39 PM

Probably. But they have an engine attached to them...

I hate small engines. Chainsaws, weed trimmers, pressure washers... If it isn't something that I know I'm going to use every week it isn't worth the added hassle and expense. I have a gasoline pressure washer I started up for the first time in six months to clean off my quad runners that hadn't been ran in a year. After I spent twenty minutes on pressure washer and an hour on the quad runners I had both of them running. But then I was so tired already that I went inside and watched the NASCAR race (ie. took a nap).

My electric pressure washer and weed trimmer, however...

Dr. Evil 05-24-2010 11:12 AM

Nobody owns a pressure washer?

12vcummins96 05-24-2010 11:26 AM

i have a honda gas powered one with 3200psi ans changable tips

Dr. Evil 05-24-2010 11:31 AM

do you find that it has too much pressure?

Hahaha! I worked with a guy whos rule when it came to pull start engines was that if it didnt start by the 10th pull it went in the dumpster .. to him they just werent messing with .. and for reference he rebuilds twin city tractors for fun.

With the 3200 psi washer we had, 3200 was way too much for washing cars .. but it worked wonders on tunnel sludge. We did wash some cars with the 40* nozzle after turning the pressure down/reducing the throttle.

Hey Doc I have a troy built 4000psi 13 hp Honda and love the thing and pressure is adjustable. It does spray a lot of water 3.5 gal a min I think. Buy a turbo tip for it and you can clean anything:tu: I just pressure washed my mom's house last week and it worked great. Only problem is her house is only a one story house. If I remember correctly your house is quite tall isn't it?

canadiandiesel 05-24-2010 06:58 PM

idea?

Pressure Washer Telescoping

would work with out setting up all that scaffold. and the electric ones will work for a little bit of time, just remember to drain the water after every use and store them in a heated place in the winter.

Dr. Evil 05-25-2010 03:50 PM

Seriously Doc, if you want to get one, go gas or forget it. The one you see at your local what ever (Hardware, Fleet store, or Cannucky stand) really aren't gonna do what You want it to do. Works great for your typical home owner for some minor cleaning jobs. That's just not you.

Dr. Evil 05-25-2010 07:24 PM

Yeah, after reading a bunch of reviews on electric washers I came to that conclusion.

Im getting a gas one desite Begles love and admiration of the electric jobbies.

this is going to be the one - Honda engine - cant go wrong for $300: BlackMax :: BM80913

Begle1 05-25-2010 08:07 PM

But I can buy three 1550 PSI electric water injection pumps for the price of one of your BlackMax's...

yj junker 05-25-2010 09:14 PM

I have a 3200psi,13 hp honda with a diesel burner, and it works awesome when we first got it ,my dad had a 92 dodge diesel and it peeled the chrome off the mirror :w2:so he called the sales guy and told him to come turn it down some:dang::nope:I use it to clean the trucks and it still takes 3 hrs for a truck and trailer:td:

hock6.0 05-29-2010 07:42 AM

we have always bought electric pressure washers and they do just fine most of the time. the gassers have alot more balls but a gas engine that needs to be maintained. one of my buddies had an electric washer and tried to wash his wood deck and it didn't seem to be doing the job fast enough for him so he went and bought a gas powered washer, can't remember the brand but he ended up replacing a board or two cause he wasn't paying attention and splittered it. good investment just have to be a little more carful is all.

Dr. Evil 05-29-2010 09:45 AM

Id like to try out the electric on I picked up but Im pretty sure they wont take it back if you run water through it.

DIRTYMAX2004 05-29-2010 10:16 AM

get a gas with a honda engine i cant remember the brand of pump but they crank out 3200 psi. that is all we use at work and they are amazing. pretty much all the electric ones suck. If you want a kicka** pressure washer get a Hotsy. they are worth every penny.

Dr. Evil 05-29-2010 10:47 AM

Oh yeah, I used a Hotsy years ago...hard to beat that on grease and oil.
