Any Landscapers ?

Just put down 1.5 tons of Top Soil cost me $25 had it put in my truck bed , alot of shoveling later and i have it all on the ground. last year i poured my side walk its about 60 feet and runs in front of the house , all i did was put the top soil along both sides of it level with the concrete and tapering off into the yard on both sides.

what sort of grass seed do you recommend for this application , i have it done up to where i wont have to weed wack it i can use my mower on both sides but i want a grass that will thrive and not be all weeds after the first year like contractor mix is

k-51 ...its pretty cheap and hardy

DB Admin 04-30-2010 08:22 PM

who carries it?

TCU Fan 04-30-2010 08:25 PM

Depends on the water and sun conditions also.

DB Admin 04-30-2010 08:29 PM

Mostly Sunny area , gets normal rain

TCU Fan 04-30-2010 08:36 PM

Bermuda is the easiest to grow, but it is not the prettiest. St. Augustine would work real nice but it is really only good for sustained temperatures to the lower 20's.

If it were me, I would get St. Augustine, but that is my personal preference. I am really only familiar with Dallas climate and what grass does what with this climate.

anyone who carries lawn supplies usually....seed it water the hell out of it for 3 or 4 days and then it should go on its own

Captain Call 04-30-2010 11:54 PM

see the ez seed video ..

EZ Seed Commercial - Scotts Miracle-Gro

I also Over seeded my yard with K51 and put down some Weed and Feed. :choochoo:

TCU Fan 05-01-2010 11:10 PM

Weed and feed at the same time as seed is a no no. I hope you did not kill your chances.

DB Admin 05-01-2010 11:31 PM

i didnt weed and feed the ez seed it already has fertilizer mixed in .. i over seeded my yard than weed and feeded it

12vcummins96 05-01-2010 11:33 PM

you can do that to

mrlandscaper 05-02-2010 12:00 AM

In Ohio you should use a cool season turf grass. This is not like Florida or Texas. If you use St. Augustine it will be brown in the winter. I would suggest Kentucky Bluegrass. It does good in the sun and will tolerate heat. Apply a 10-20-10 Starter fert to the area you are going to seed. I would not recommend the EZ seed because it is more expensive and the seed germination rate is low. It is best to buy a seed with a 95% germ rate to ensure that you get the most germination from the seed you apply so that you dont have to overseed the following year. You should also wait to weed and feed after your overseeding app. is esablished. Weed and feed is not a good starter Fert.

DB Admin 05-02-2010 01:12 AM

thanks .. where were you yesterday !

12vcummins96 05-02-2010 01:41 AM

lol lol lol

:lol88:

mrlandscaper 05-02-2010 03:53 PM

Well, Yesterday i had some work to do. :jump: Your welcome for the information and if im correct the germ rate for that EZ seed is like 65%. That would mean you have to buy more and put more down to make up the low germ rate. That means more money and Im sure you want to save money so you can MOD your truck.

And let me know how it goes.

If you need anything else just PM me.

DB Admin 05-02-2010 04:00 PM

i put it down super thick .

we got a monsoon today and most of its half way down the yard now

mrlandscaper 05-02-2010 04:35 PM

So it sounds like you need to redo it. Did you lay down straw after you planted the seed on the places next to your sidewalk.

DB Admin 05-02-2010 05:20 PM

it had mulch mixed in with it , its still raining out , at least my over seeding is getting drenched on

mrlandscaper 05-02-2010 05:53 PM

Oh yeah, Duh. you used the EZ seed. Well when you redo it i suggest using straw over top of the seed. And the overseeding should do just fine with all that rain.
