Clash over Junkers

I was thinking bout this damn toyota killin spree (not sure of death toll) and it seemed that the whole goverment Hooptys for Hybrids is out to get you where you drive. Toyota had a huge payday from and they make the most cars the fit under the gov guidelines for trade in. Hell it could impact anyone of us. I know the gov didn't know but they haven't said anything about it. To them its all on toyota. But who wrote the bill, and who did they have in mind? Just seems strange. I'm not out for Begle1 to call me a bigot or a conspricy theorist, it just seems odd. I mean say you could only buy american or something.:td:

Wait huhhh???

What government guidelines for trade-in? EPA set rules for what cars were "clunkers", but I don't believe that they ever said clunkers could only be traded in on certain vehicles.

I take it that you're upset that people traded their "clunkers" in for more imports than domestics? How could our government know that'd happen? People were buying more imports than domestics before the program, and that trend continued after the program. How's that a conspiracy?

I'm not following your allegation.

heres one thing that ive heard...i dont believe it and it seems way to over the top but the govt knew about the problem toyota had but ignored it then they did cash for clunkers knowing that there would be a mass shift to toyota and that when the problems happened alot and ppl got worried that they would move to something domestic

now i dont believe it but its something ive heard

So our government knew that Toyota would lose market share when their vehicles were recalled, so they waited until after Cash for Clunkers to press for recalls?

If they were in bed with Toyota, why would they force recall of millions of vehicles in any case? The problems with Toyota's are hideously overblown; I'd be more inclined to believe the conspiracy theory that our Government is attempting to hurt Toyota in order to prop up their share in GM.

I'd agree with that. Don't forget that the US government is the primary shareholder of GM. Who stands to profit from Toyota hurting, GM which = the government
