Anyone have camera knowledge?

So Ryan bought me a canon rebel for valentines day. I have been reading in the books that came with it about iso and shutter speed can anyone explained this to me in stupid so I can understand lol. If I understood right iso is to be adjusted for different light conditions but when messing with it last night I didn't see a difference in the pictures at different settings. Shutter speed I understand what your doing but why lol if that makes since. Basically why would you want shutter speed to be really slow?

Please help!!!

ISO is your film speed, 100asa is normal 400 is for filming in the dark, should also be able to change your aperture to change depth of field, been a long time since I read any of this so I'm sure someone with more recent knowledge will jump in.

Shutter Speeds - Photographic Basic

if your shutter speed was really slow, that would mean your letting in more light...but the slower it would be, the longer it takes to get the shot...meaning you have to have a tripod or one really steady hand...

at least i think....i actually dont fully remember....it was about 6yrs ago when i was using my rebel.....now due to work i just have a fully auto digital....there are enough programs out there that you can really tweak your photos and get sum really cool looks....if i could figure out how to attach a photo :argh: i would share one of them

To attach a photo you need to have it saved some where and use the link to it, I use ImageShack.com,it does lose some pictures so don't make it your only save site, that and I only use it to save pictures I reduce to 640x480 for web site posting and then hit the insert image button and insert link

You want to have the slow shutter speed in low light conditions so that more light hits the sensor.

Canon Rebel is a very nice camera.

Ok well I guess I was right on I figured that was what they ment but wasn't sure. The book that came with it for the most part explains it as if you already know what it all means.

So what are some good software programs for photo editing that's easy to understand for beginners. And Ryan said dosent cost a ton lol.

GIMP (Graphics Image Manipulation Program) little work to get it going but you can do anything with it.

on the easier end, for things like crop rotate touchup.. check out Picassa by google

edit: both are free.

I love picasa because it catalog's all your photo's and even has a new feature where you can tag someone in a photo and it will look for them in any other photo on the drive, pretty neat

X2 on gimp - supposed to be almost as good as a $1000 photoshop program and its free.

GIMP - Downloads

There are hoto bideos on Youtube that show you how to work with Gimp, as well, I believe they have a manual and forums right on their site

another excellent program for manipulating photos is Irfanview:

IrfanView - Official Homepage - one of the most popular viewers worldwide
