anyone good with tractor/log splitter hydraulics?
My father in law gave me a 3 pt. log splitter. you need a 30hp tractor or more to run it. My tractor is 46hp. It is 10-15 years old and is pretty slow. I adjusted the hydraulic valve on my tractor but was wondering if there is a way to speed it up.

you can buy a external pump with more flow gpm to put on your pto.
|
go buy whats called a detent valve......it does 2 different flows, one for speed then when ya need the grunt ya back off and hit it again and its low volumn high pressure
|
yeah that will work. fast gear when you dont need the power.:jump:
|
I thought the detent valve was for auto return. i didn't realize it was for flow and pressure. sweet. is there any ratings on them?
|
you may want to investigate this further but I have a detent valve on my splitter and it is auto return and the 2 flow deal...............

will this one work?
Cross SCO Open Center/Detent Valve - 1820398 | Tractor Supply Company or this one? http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/w...t_6970_472_472 ---AutoMerged DoublePost--- they all seem to be the same gpm 25-30gpm and they all are around 2000-2800psi. the tractor supply i one is 30gpm and 2000psi fixed the two northern tool ones are 25gpm and adjustable psi what do I need? |
there is no way to speed it up.. after looking at the hydraulic system and doing some research it is what it is. the reason splitters with their own motor are faster is because they have a 2 stage pump. one stage is for a faster speed and if more power is needed then the 2nd stage kicks in. tractor hydraulics arent made for faster speeds.
because I am limited to the tractors internal pump I cant make it faster unless I buy a pto pump and hook it that way, but then I am about half way in price to a new splitter. the only thing I can do is prevent restriction which wont gain me much speed at all and I have 1/2" hose. the fittings are what they are. thx for the help guys. |
We got a local expert on this hydraulic stuff but you'll have to PM him cause he doesn't check into this area much. Drop a note to 92 D/UNIT, he builds dump units for big trucks.

back to the external pump. they are pretty high. you might find a used pump
