Shipping to Canada?

I sent my cousin in Canada some Christmas presents, she says that they arrived and the mailman required $50 on delivery?

Huh? Is that some crazy Canuckistani thing? I shipped through UPS, only stupid me has misplaced the tracking number and I never got an email confirmation...

they have to pay some kind of import tax. dr evil can give us info.

Brokerage fees, some dude in Canada must go to the border and actually bring the items to Canada as a part of UPS, Fedex etc.. and depending on what the package is (value, size etc..) he will charge you a fee based on this. Also having to pay tax as well as any regular delivery fees. Yay, Canada....

Those brokerage fees seem to vary too much to really nail down how they calculate them because I got a set of DDP 2's 12V injectors and I had to pay like $85 in fees, I then got a set of stacks in a much bigger box and had to $72, I received a USED turbo and had to pay $64. Either way, we get screwed.... Don't even get me started on firearms and acc's.....

I always try to get things shipped USPS and these costs go down greatly or completely.FWIW

So should've I lied on the customs sheet or do they actually open and inspect everything (I bothered to wrap everything too)? I sure hope it's in the hokey up there and they didn't do something stupid like ship it back to me already...

Can I PayPal straight to Canada or do they take a ton of fees out over the border? What's the best way to send money up there?

If you cold buggers accepted our armed invitation to join the Union in 1812 we wouldn't be having this problem.

I don't think it matters what it says on the customs sheet, I believe it is up the broker whether he imports it or not and what to charge. Sending money through paypal doesn't go through the border..It goes through the internet, only the regular paypal fees and currency conversions matter. You could also send a certified check, MO, EMT etc...

Also, if we accepted that invitation, we would also be a part of your damned $2trillion debt...I'll take a couple shipping fees thanks.....

First mistake was using UPS ....UPS and other companies charge a ridiculous "customs brokerage" fee (as has already been explained).

For anything you are shipping use the good old USPS and fib a bit on the Customs Declaration. Its a gift but they dont need to know how much its worth. I think if its less than $60 theres no duty. if its over this amount, they charge some duty and maybe some GST (tax)....but its not like getting bent over the border by UPS.

You got it Dr. We get alot of Yukoners that "borrow" someone's P.O. box here to ship stuff to; then just drive over and p/u.

usps is the only way to get things shipped to me on Canada, half the big delivery companies won't deliver to me because I am 1/2 mile outside the city limits and rape ya on the brokerage fee's,there are places set up in calais maine that charge $5 to accept a package then you can just go pick it up if you live close enough to the border but I am 2hrs away so I usually just pay the damn brokerage fees:td:
