Who plays Elec. Bass?

Hey guys, the past few years, well like, 5, ive become very interested in playing a bass guitar. I was a trombone player in MS, HS, Jazz, Pep bands etc. for the school so im already familiar with the bass clef, and can read music. Ive seriously considered buying a nice bass guitar and finding somewhere/someone to take lessons from to learn the how-to's. So basically, im here for you guys to tell me what to look for in a guitar, amp, etc etc etc.

Thanks!

It's all about personal preference. What kind of music are you interested in playing?

You know the difference between a pizza and a bass player? A pizza can feed a family of 4. :w2:

I know a lot of the bassists I've played with use Fender Jazz Basses. it all depends on how much you want to spend and whether or not you want to buy American. Personally I think that Fender makes the best all around basses. But Gibson doesn't make a bad bass either or you can go with a Rickenbacker bass, or a Hofner bass like Paul McCartney. I usually buy my stuff at Guitar Center because I like to play guitars before I buy them but I usually do my research at musiciansfriend.com they have great customer service and a great selection. Before I started researching diesels and how to modify them. I researched guitars and bass guitars constantly so if you find one and you want to ask about it feel free to PM me. Hope this helps. good luck:tu:

Don't be afraid to check out used gear either. Used Fender Jazz or Precision Basses you can grab for half of what they'd be new but you still have a damn nice guitar. Around $400 used vs $800 new.

For the amp it depends on how serious you are about playing. If you are keen on playing with a full band you'll probably need around 200W-400W and for an amp that big it's worth spending a bit of dough to get something good...

Rickenbackers sound the best.
