That looks like a model 1890 or sometimes called just a 90. The trademark "Stevens" is kinda odd. Makes it sound like a re-barreled parts rifle. On second look, I believe it may be, because most model 90's had octagonal barrels,; and yours is round.

Like guppy said, it looks like someone took a model 90 and put a Stevens barrel on it.

"Trademark Stevens" wasn't used until around the 1940's if I recall right....just going from memory here but the rifles produced before that timeframe bore the J. Stevens & Co. stamping, among others.

Post the serial number...it's on the bottom of the receiver a couple inches in front of the trigger housing. That will tell us everything.

296230 is the serial number as near as i can tell , it is behind the trigger guard though.

Found more markings on the barrel , up infront of the rear sight, it says "J. Stevens arms & tool co. chicopee falls mass, usa"

under that it says " visible loading repeater. pat. apr. 30-07"

any of that help? im gonna throw a few rounds in it today and see what happens

Well, so far I can tell you it was built sometime in 1906-1907.

Is this a .22 Short, .22LR, or .22WRF?

Here, follow these links and play along.....it should tell you a bunch.

Winchester 1890 3 models

Trademark "Stevens" had nothing to do with Winchester Repeating Arms at all.

The company began doing business as "J.Stevens & Company" in 1864 in Chicopee Falls NY... It was incorporated in 1888 as the "J.Stevens Arms & Tool Company"... It operated under this name until 1920 when it taken over by Savage Arms Co...There were some slight variations of these but the main portion/s of similar company name stampings will give up the time period of manufacture.

As for the model, there are over 20 various 22LR Stevens listed over the years..However, only three had tubular magazines..They are the models 066, 66, and 086 and all were bolt action Stevens 22's..

All of the above in "good" condition would have a retail value of around $100

Stevens was also one of the companies back then who was making rifles for Sears & Roebuck Co.

Hope this helps you out some........Andy

Andy it looks like a model 1890 that someone has re-barreled along the line with a newer Stevens barrel......

That looks like a gun that my dad has cant remember what model and all that it is BUT the gun that he has is two different guns the barrel says .22 short, long, and long rifle. But the action will only take .22 shorts ill have to look tonight and see what model gun (or 2 guns it is) and post back but does look similar to the gun in your pics.

I tried it last night, the action will only accept 22 shorts, i think i could probably get a 22 long in the chamber if i stopped the action in just the right spot, but i didnt want to chance fubaring something, so i just stuck with 22 shorts.... now , to find some squirrels, raccoons , groundhogs, etc , to test it on
