Wish this was an article on the front page of every newspaper in America

Wish this was an article on the front page of every newspaper in America ---in large bold letters. I know that there are similar incidents in the ER of all hospitals......

This was a "letter to the editor" in a recent Jackson , MS newspaper.

Dear Sirs:

"During my last night's shift in the ER, I had the pleasure of evaluating a patient with a shiny new gold tooth, pierced tongue, multiple elaborate tattoos, a very expensive brand of tennis shoes and a new cellular telephone equipped with her favorite R&B tune for a ringtone.

Glancing over the chart, one could not help noticing her payer status: Medicaid.

She smokes more than one costly pack of cigarettes every day and, somehow, still has money to buy beer.

And our president expects me to pay for this woman's health care?

Our nation's health care crisis is not a shortage of quality hospitals, doctors or nurses. It is a crisis of culture - a culture in which it is perfectly acceptable to spend money on pleasures and vices while refusing to take care of one's self or, heaven forbid, purchase health insurance. A culture that thinks "I can do whatever I want to because someone else will always take care of me".

Life is really not that hard. Most of us reap what we sow. Don't you agree?

I like the response that followed:

In response, a teacher/reader posted this: Sure, there are people who abuse the system, but why didn’t you mention the poor children who don’t have regular checkups or the elderly poor who can’t afford their medications? I teach school, and I’ve seen firsthand the struggles of two parents who have lost their jobs, or a family who goes broke when one of them comes down with a major illness. Come on, Starner, I remember you growing up, and you’ve had a better upbringing than this. Didn’t Jesus say we should love others as we love ourselves? I think that includes healthcare, among other things.

I, for one, think both of these folks make good points. Somehow we need to find a reform proposal that respects real needs and requires personal responsibility. So far, neither side has done a good job of putting the two concepts together.

We need to get Government out of health care all together, Government has never done anything right without a lot of waste, they think throwing money at a problem is the answer to everything, to bad it's your money.

We need to get government out of our life's all together, they get more of our money every year, as we make less than ever do to all the illegals they let in the country, and that destroyed the wage base, at least that's the way it happened in Florida.

No thats pretty much the way it happened everywhere. The first job I had in Tulsa was a $15 an hour job easy but I did it for 10 cuz the rest of the guys were illegals and ate it up for 10.

I eat it up too, if I could work for 7 years and then go home and retire, 10 years you be a King.

10 bucks an hour is big money when your paying 10th of everything and don't have to worry about paying for insurance or DUI's, one mexican on a site I was working said he was going to have to be careful, he got 5 DUI's, that would put us in prison for 2 years automatically and we would get to drive ever again.

You should have turned in your employer for hiring illegals.

Turn them in to who, if the Sheriff's department can't even hold them for not having a license or insurance, what can we do besides kick all out of office who allow this to fill there pockets.

But that would be a good start, clear out DC right down to the janitor's and lets get a clean shot at it.

I dunno its a pretty messed up thing yea no govmt in health care keep em out. I deal in food wholesale and retail. The people that come in here to pay with food stamps drivin escalades lincolns nice fancy cars all dressed up and then the amount of money they have left on their card after they have been to wal mart and have paid me is unreal its more than i could spend on food in a month. And the sad thing is after buying the "regular" groceries from (:booo:)wal mart they come here and buy ribeyes, lobster tails, fillets and high end things like that. its sad.... too many people out there that could use it and use it right and then theres others out there that dont need it and abuse it :madd::argh::bat: its right the american ride
