looking for info on rc offroad stadium racer type cars looking for an electric car for my son(13) ,he has a team associate rc 10 stealth right now but it is a vintage (late 80's) car and has taken a real liking to them so I want to get him a new one for x-mas ,been reading about the brushless motors and esc which is all new to me ,I got out of the rc's in the early 90's after doing a little racing with the on road chassis cars,my last car was a fiberglass chassis BOLINK, any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated,want to stay electric because there are no local shops to get supplies from anymore so everything will be ordered online:pca1:

Brushless are hella expensive and require the more expensive Lipo packs to run.

Brushed motors have improved greatly over the years, and in many cases are just as fast as the brushless, plus the cars are usually lighter with a brushed motor for various reasons. Brushless have longer run times with the Lipo pack but you can run a brushed on a Lipo, too.


You can still get the RC10.....often imitated, not yet duplicated, it's a great car.

I could write a novel here, but basically what you already know about R/C can still be put to good use, only the newer motors, esc's, servos, etc are better than before, so for example today's bone stock RTR steering servos are on par with yesterday JR4735, and the RTR radios are pretty good all considered.


Get a subscription to RC Car Action or an equivalent if you haven't already. The hobby has come a long way....

I would also recomend Traxxas, my brother and I both had traxxas trucks, a Stampede and a Rustler, with zero complaints. they always worked great at could take one heck of a beating, only thing I broke repeatedly was the steering servo-bad driving on my part, but I got real good at rebuilding it!, and the motor-when I accidentily gave it a bath in the creek! But they served us well and I brought home 2 best of show awards with mine from the State fair. Good luck
