Whats the deal??

I went to buy ammo today I went to Big 5, they had no .22 long, said they haven't had any in weeks. Called Turners Outdoorsman, none, said its been over 6 months, local shooting range has some, but its pricey, they are on last case.

I admit, unfortnally I have not followed the new gun laws, but what the f**k is going on? I remember days when .22 long was common.

joebob3093 10-05-2009 05:55 PM

you have been out of it for a while. we havnt been seening much of any ammo, powder or primers since last november.

Captn_tyler 10-05-2009 05:56 PM

I guess so :argh: well i had a stock pile of target rounds.

I know there has been hype about new gun laws, has anything really pasted through yet?

joebob3093 10-05-2009 06:00 PM

dont think anything has passed. just everyone stock piling everything for when it does happen.

YES!! I'm glad you asked! A.B. 962 severely restricting handgun ammo purchases is on the Governators desk and all of us Californians have a few days left to ask him to VETO 962 like he's veto'd similar ammo restrictions in the past. Before you think "handgun ammo doesn't affect me"....22LR and .223 are both commonly used in handguns.

Automated system that takes 38 seconds:

Step 1: Call 916-445-2841
Step 2: Press 1 for English.
Step 3: Press 2 for commenting on a bill on the Governor’s desk
Step 4: Press 2 for AB962
Step 5: Press 2 for Oppose
*-you'll likely get a busy signal, since it's an automated system, the line clears quickly. In my experience, you can get through in less than three three tries.

Basic info: AB 962 ends mail order ammo, requires face-to-face transaction with thumb print and other record keeping and a whole mess of other invasive restrictions.

For more info on A.B. 962, this is one of several threads at the Calguns Forum.

Captn_tyler 10-05-2009 06:19 PM

WHAT????

Step 4: Press 2 for AB962
Step 5: Press 2 for Oppose

You give this guy way to much credit. He's not Rambo of the political world, One man did not make this mess in the short amount of time he's been in office. He sure hasn't helped anything for damn sure but he's not a one man crusade on any of this and laws and bills don't pass that fast no matter who wants them. This means that most of this had to already been in progress before he even took office.

Bucket Truck 10-05-2009 07:09 PM

THe Supreme Court already ruled that every citizen has a right to own firearms thru the constitution. And are now working on whether the individual states can ban weapons as they please or if the constitution expresses otherwise.

what's unclear about that? It's the steps of an automated phone system. Step 4 is to select AB 962 from the list o current bills, step 5 is "1 to support, 2 to oppose".

Captn_tyler 10-05-2009 08:55 PM

Thats more clear :ok1: I am gonna call

After the bailouts and stimulus packages, I beg to differ on how quickly some of these bills pass. But you're right about the Savior not being the only one responsible. He is responsible for appointing/nominating extreme enemies of the constitution like Holder, Sotomayor and a bunch of these czars that answer only to him...all of whom are vehemently opposed to anyone but themselves and their bodyguards/police possessing firearms or money.

Uncle Bubba 10-06-2009 03:25 AM

The bailouts and stimulus packages weren't laws that passed, they were executive orders, stop gap emergency measures so to speak. Laws take a long time to go through all the Senate and House arena's. They get studied, committee'd, kicked back for re-write and eventually may even make it before both the House and Senate for a vote and assuming they are not sent back to be re-worked from here and wait for another vote they may make it into the books, if they pass by the majority of votes in both places.

He as a one man crusade can't pass them without the majority of votes from both institutions. So decide your next vote for congress and senate wisely and Obama can't do nothin.

All of us in CA, especially on the CalGuns Forum, are watching the McDonald v. Chicago like a hawk! We don't have 2A incorporation in CA, it's not considered a constitutional right here and the State has been overstepping Federal on practically every piece of 2A related legislation.

Are you sure they were EO's? I thought they were Bills starting in either the House or Senate, circlejerk for amendments and then on to the Pres's desk for approval. EO's are just drafted by the Pres and are done, aren't they? That's what was so alarming about those spending bills and the credit card bill and a few others, they were pushed through so fast that congressmen(&women) weren't reading anything more than their own pork provisions.

No, just no legally owned handguns, the criminals still have them. But they do have lots of maple syrup!:choochoo:

12vcummins96 10-06-2009 10:49 AM

yeah its not going to happen its all a hype:ph:

Uncle Bubba 10-06-2009 01:33 PM

Back to the subject though. I just bought a brick 22LR here a few weeks ago and didn't seem to be any higher then normal and the shelves were full of choices. This was at te local farm store though so maybe it's been sittin there a while. I know they don't sell a lot of it.

sunsetsky 10-06-2009 02:50 PM

Sunday night a friend was asking why ammo he bought went up from about $40 a box to $150 a box since last year. Maybe it depends where you are, or when older supplies run out and newer boxes with more expensive price tags are put on the shelf.

We have Maple Syrup here, too! :w2:
:tttt:

scopx 10-06-2009 03:19 PM

It has been observed since the new administration has taken office, that the general population is concerned about direction gun laws might take. To protect themselves, the general public has bought up all existing supply of ammo. The rush to purchase ammo (as well as reloading supplies) began as soon as Obama was declared winner. Now only real oddball calibers are available.

Captn_tyler 10-06-2009 06:49 PM

I went to the range today, and was talking too them about the subject. I was told that while no new laws have been passed, that the population is concerned that some tough laws may be handed down. This is kind of the same thing that scopx said. And yes all we have around here on the shelves is odd ball sizes and shot gun shells

Bucket Truck 10-06-2009 08:06 PM

Yall need to order your ammo by the case off the internet! :U:

Here's a link to a website that is updated with gun and ammo prices regularly gun-deals:choochoo: . It shows all deals all over the web and at actual walk-in stores like walmart and basspro. Cabelas has great deals right now to and will include sealed ammo boxes with bulk orders.

greasemonkey 10-06-2009 10:58 PM

If AB 962 doesn't get veto'd by the governator, we won't be allowed to mail order handgun ammo anymore in California :madd: That gun-deals site is awesome!! Broken down into cost per round and on and on. There's one discrepancy, though; that must be an out of state Wal-mart that the .40 s&w is listed for $13.97/50 rds...if it's even on the shelf it's been closer to $18 for me at Wal-mart.

ATTN: if yer in California, please see my Post #5 above!!
