need a weedeater, Which one

I need to buy a gas powered weed eater what do you guys gals recommend, I have had and like the husqvarna, but do not want to over look stihl or echo, let me know your opinions and experiences.

i use a troy bilt, 4 cylce. it seems to be pretty good. it gets done everything that i need it to, and then some. i like not mixing fuel and it fires up everytime with minimal effert. only gripe with it, it took a while to get it to run right. when i got it, the plug was wrong, fixed that, then took a while to get the idel right on it. i have had it about a year and a half, and runs better now then ever. it also has multiple attachments, not sure how many but i never used any. also the line is very, very, very easy to rewind. i think i picked it up at lowes or home depot for a resonable price. i am not sure what you are lookin to do, but it works great for around the house and for our multiple probertys we own.

TCdodge 08-19-2009 02:58 PM

i like the stihls, makes they have a new head for it that is easy to restring, but ive never had anything else. make sure you get one with a straight shaft that way you can put a blade on it if you want too. The blades are super good for big weeds.:U: ive seen a few people with fourstroke weed eaters and they like them alright.

sidekick 08-19-2009 03:32 PM

i use a stihl fs90 4mix at the house but we use stihl fs130 4mix for the comercial use the commercial ones are 4-5 years old and start like new today and they have 1000+ hrs id have to guess

Bucket Truck 08-19-2009 04:12 PM

4 strokes are nice. Get a straight shaft that detaches so u can get different attachments. Stringer, edger, hedge trimmer, chain saw, tiller, etc. They even make propane powered one now too.

My best advice would be echo or stihl the weed wackers they sell at Home depot and lowes are pretty weak. To get a good weed eater go to your local Stihl or echo dealer.
I went in to buy a Stihl weed eater from a Stilh/ Echo dealer and the dealer told me the best weed eater was probably the Echos.Chain saws a different staory Stihl all the way.

mysterync 08-19-2009 05:51 PM

Robin is the best weed eater I've ever ran by FAR!

Bucket Truck 08-19-2009 07:28 PM

O Echo all the way. And if you have a lot of fence row or areas you have to weed eat cause it can't be mowed, get a commercial grade model. It won't overheat and crap out on you. They're also good for your blood pressure. If u know what I mean. LOL
I own a landscape company on the side to so I've made the dumb decisions already. Get a high quality one with attachments. Make sure it fits you too! It needs to be balanced and lightweight but powerful too. If u wait a few months for the offseason you could find yourself a steal of a deal!

i work at a john deere and a stihl dealer and if you just want a weed eater with the string and you can still find them.. get a john deere... they just stopped making them and are going for 150ish... thats what we have them for... straight or curved shaft... we use a john deere at work for lawn care stuff.. i use it 4-5 hours a day... its mixed fuel and pump the primer a few pull it about 5 times and let it warm up.. they run great... but if you want to get attachments for it... go with a stihl... ive go a stihl staight shaft at home with those bike handles.... its a weed trimmer, brush cutter, tiller, hedge trimmer, and pole pruner... that thing is f***n sweet... thats the real multipurpose one if you want one of those... they run great and stihl has that easy start thing... i think you just pull the cord once... and its "spose" to start... ive never tried the easy start.. so idk..

spoolinaround 08-19-2009 07:49 PM

John Deere weed whips are built by Kawasaki and I like them, I have a deere that runs like a top 2 echos that are junk, and 2 stihls that still work fine and they have been through hell and back

Stihl fs 80R it got ran over by my truck (the one in my sig) and still works perfect. never had a problem and i mow houses in summer for money and its 4 years old.

DIESELDENT 08-20-2009 08:01 AM

I love my newer craftsman 4 stroke for normal around the house stuff it has a bunch of attachments and is much easier to use and runs a lot smoother, for harder work i still have my big old Stihl that ive beat and has never let me down

Diesel Powered Rocket 08-20-2009 09:18 AM

Tanaka straight shaft. Has a great selection of attachments and I like that the pull start cord is on the end of the engine instead of between the engine and shaft. Easier to repair. The large lawn care companies around here that mow at the cemeteries use Tanaka trimmers.

I have troy built 4-cycle and have not had a single issue with it. Pulled it out of the box, primed it and let it rip. Have a couple of attachments that work pretty good too. Cost is minimal compared to the commercial grade stuff like echo and stihl.

codys 08-20-2009 08:44 PM

right now ive got a riobi and its a good weedeater but i hate the curved shaft....i like the stihl better for heavy stuff....the best advice i can give you is buy one with the biggest motor you can afford.....ive had several that were under powered....but then again not everybody runs about 20-22 inches of .090 line all the time

jp8819 08-24-2009 01:37 PM

shindaiwa trimmers gets my vote brother switched to them in landscaping business from stihl and echo and has never looked back. They have the best power to weight ratios of any on the market and last near about forever.

bosslady 08-24-2009 07:25 PM

Stihl... my Daddy has one...he says his only regret was that he didn't spend another hundred dollars to get the biggest they had :tttt:

so far hes never had any problems with his

turbo20psi 08-24-2009 07:43 PM

Ryobi 2 cycle 15 years old straight shaft commercial.I was told the curved shaft doesnt fell as good.:w2:More control over a straight shaft.Big motor is a must.

Red_Rattler 08-24-2009 08:23 PM

ECHO!!!!! Back in the day when I mowed grave yards, we had a couple different brands in the begining to figure out which one could last and Echo came out on top! I loved my 280-T that thing could cut a tree down and it was at full throttle for an hour or better at a time with the gaurd cout down so I could trim a 18" or better path :D Didn't have to push mow around the heads too then. Easy to reload string too and save your back and time, get a straight shaft. :c:

jp8819 08-25-2009 10:31 PM

After using straight shafts for years I used a friends curved shaft for 5 mins and Im not sure why anyone would want a curved shaft I wanted to throw that thing.

cumminsdad08 08-28-2009 07:39 PM

i kinda figured something out last weekend, we got a couple dozen yards to take care of around here, and me and borther inlaw do it. he mows, and i wack. i found out, that it is much eaiser on the arms with our "cheapy" then with my heavy 4 cycle. all we cut is grass and small weeds with it. so what i am getting at, bigger might not be better for you. if you are knocking out some heavy sh*t with it, then its great, but just grass and some small edging, don't waist your money on a big heavy thing.

dietz4ibanez 08-28-2009 08:23 PM

I have 3 Honda's 4 stroke 2 weedeaters and one edger... And the same motor on a water pump.. They are pretty good!

I like stihls too!

midnite><og 08-28-2009 10:28 PM

john deere.... pullan.. best ones

dragogt 08-28-2009 10:58 PM

Why not start a poll based off the most popular votes??

Nitelord 08-28-2009 11:02 PM

I had a Stihl for over four years (used for business). It finally died in April. I made the mistake of buying a Home Depot "bargain". Don't do it. It's hard to start, only runs line that I could use to go fishing with and overheats very quickly. If it gets through the season, I'll likely get another Stihl for next spring. :U:

SUCK-SQUEEZE-BANG-BLOW 09-05-2009 10:38 PM

Used both Shindaiwa and Echo's commercially and they both last forever. When it came time to purchase my own I went with the Echo because of cost. Like everyone else said go with a straight shaft, they are more practical and will outlast any curved unit.
