My New Gun.....

.45 ACP Rock Island Arsenal Colt Commander 1911 copy, gave 440.00 plus tax, i bought it for my dad for fathers day, i bought him the fitted holster also for 15 bucks, now i just got to get him signed up for CC.....We looked at the regular 1911 in .38 Super and .45 ACP, he really wanted the .38 Super but ammo is alot harder to come by than .45 ACP, plus he wanted the smaller Commander anyways so he decided on this one instead......He wants some Birds Eye Maple grips inscribed with the USMC's shield and my initials......i found a place online that will custom make them in about any type of wood for less than 100 bucks.....

sweet nice gift , ill get my dad some golf balls

LOGANSTANFORTH 06-28-2009 10:30 AM

ive never really had the money to get him a good fathers day gift and since he turned 50 this year i figured he deserved something nice, plus it was less than 500 bucks for everything including the ammo so i cant be mad about the price either, considering they were 100 cheaper than anyone else....

i want one, where did ya get it?

Benjamin 06-28-2009 09:59 PM

you will love that gun. i have the RIA 1911A1 fullsize. it is my everyday carry gun. looks just like that, parkerized and all. i actually prefer the Fobus paddle holsters as i use one for my S&W SW40VGE and SW40VE that i sometimes carry. the 1911 is slimmer then the smiths but it is heavier.

Logan, go ahead and get an extended Beaver tail Grip safety for that thing. i am about to put one on mine cause i am tired of the stock one pokin me in the side and pinching my fat between the hammer and safety. it is money well spent.

Rock Island Arsenal was bought out by somebody and right now they are on back order, i got mine on clearance, so you can look at giving another 75 to 100 for one......

my dad found his grips last night with the USMC emblem on them, i think hes going to have my initials done sometime this week......

yes we looked at the A1's in .38 Super and .45 ACP but he liked the shorter, lighter commander.......i am going to buy one of the A1's in .45 when i get back from over here to carry.......dad is getting the beavertail.....

very nice. my dad has a colt commander. Supposedly its great but I'm not too impressed. Definitely good price on a 1911 and I bet its way smoother.

Very nice gift. I got my dad a freaking netflix subscription. :booo:

LOGANSTANFORTH 06-29-2009 07:03 AM

see this is why im the favorite son.....i pay his bills, buy him guns, buy him trucks and cars to drive and he is going to give me everything of his in return......

Helluva nice gift for dad! I've been hearing alot of good things about rock island lately. For the price ya can't beat em. Good choice with the .45 and not the .38 super. :U:

My buddie's have a few race guns in .38 super that they can hardly get ammo for. So when they come over to shoot out back the tarps go down and we're chasin brass like dogs on a rabbit.

if springfield dosent make a 1911 A1 or Commander model then i dont see any problem with it.....he hates the XD/XDM guns, no matter the size, he spent 8 years in the USMC and he loved the Colt, plus he had 5 or 6 different ones after he got out but hasnt had one for about 19 years.....

89silverbullet 06-30-2009 03:46 AM

i love my 1911. its made in brazil cost me $150 and shoots better than my friends kimber. i still dont know who makes it.

abadcat 06-30-2009 06:36 AM

I was talking about the Springfield 1911 that has been around for years. :ph:

"Experts" seem to think the Springer is so much better than the RIA, yet the ones who seem to know the most never seem to own one....in other words, my post was in jest.

The Rock Island is a little soft, but otherwise works really good for the price.

The RIA's are hit and miss on their heat treatment. Made in the South Pacific. The Springfield's are forged, milled, imported and made in Brazil...If one wants real world specs and side by side info, go to AR15.com. There is so many differance's and options on 1911's. You did good for you Dad... wish I had a son that would do that for "The ole man":U:
