Lap Top went BSOD
 

:argh: good thing i have the 2 year geek squad they have it now , i dont want to lose the data thats on it or i would of did the restore

6 months ! and if i had the Windows Disk i could of done a repair installation all i had was the boot disks i made , why the hell dont they sent all the software with the new machines !!

safe mode + reinstall all your drivers. BSOD is usually driver issue.

didnt have any disks to work with , just the restore to factory disks i made , i didnt want to resort to that , if i knew it was going to take this long i would of just restored it and reinstalled the 500 programs

oh that sucks. usually you can get drivers from the manufacturers website, although i don't think I've actually worked with any HPs besides printers since the Compaq merger.
if you can download them, stick them on a disk or flash drive and uninstall all drivers reboot and reinstall in safe mode.

anyway, thats what i'd try.

well after like 4 days i go to get my lap top back they say its ready i open it up and its on the same damn messed up screen as it was when i took it there , what asshats !!!, so its up to me what a waste of $$$ the "black tie" warentee was ..

So im doing the full on restore , i grab my 160GB external HD and plug it in and let it do its thing , and it says my external HD is not NTFS formatted WTF , so i hit google and found out how to reformat the external HD to NFTS and it says all the files will be deleted , :argh: So now im backing up all the xternal HD files on my desk top 2 hours to go then i have to reformat the HD to NFTS and plug it into the laptop and hope the hell it works , then i have to resotre the laptop back to orginal and try to find all my license numbers and ect to get it back like i want it

what a pain in the ass

this desk top came from best buy as well , im going to go ahead and say it , My next computers will be Dell like the old one upstairs i have all the disks for it and have had to reinstalled the operating system about 5 times or do repair installations .

when you buy it from them you get all the cd's , best buy gives you trial versions of word and ect and you have to buy them thats how they can under cut dell .

i have a dell a gateway (this one) and a HP laptop, my next purchase is going to be a dell lap top and ill be sure to get every damn disk i can with it .

the dell upstairs is older than hell cnt even hardly use it like 512 ram 1.2 intel celeron :D both my gate way and HP have dual processers 1 has intel and the other AMD

My Dell came with all the software

well got all the files on my desktop , re formated the xternal HD and now have the lap top backing up files , 30 mins into it and its 1% done so this is an all nighter , then ill restore it to factory and hope it works

If you read through that forums site I listed that is ran by Best Buy there is nothing good to say about best buy. If you check out the Better Business Bureau and other sites like it Best Buy is definitely not the best place to buy. Nothin but con artist that are there for your money and nothin else. And ya there is tens of thousands of complaints with BBB's all over the country against them.

well im posting from my lap top , attempting to restore the files now from my xternal HD , will see what happens

any chance at the restore partition is good on the ole lappy ? I know HP sends em stuffed to the gills with restore........

well i initeated the restore off the xternal HD and it creaed a restore folder on my desktop and its putting all the files and ect in there , pretty much worthless to have the program files folders and ect cause theres no install.exe in the program files so i still have to reinstall everything anyway

Thats right - D:/ drive on my HP is a restore partition. I bet DM had this before he wiped the hard drive.

i did have that but the restore said it would wipe everything out , i ran the restore from the disks and backed everything up on the xternal HD
