Need Some Help With A Gasser Question - MSD Related
We have a ski boat with a 351W in it (its a blast only being 16' long) and I want to get away from the old points system. Being how I am if I'm going away from that I want something SWEET! Never been a gasser performance guy so whats the deal with the MSD's? Is it worth the upgrade on a stock engine? What all exactly do I need? The distributer, Coil, and what the hell is that little rectangle box for? :D
Thanks guys! |
the more spark the better the performance i guess. kinda like more boost and fuel equals horsepower for diesels

you will need the distribuiter, and the box, and a coil. the MSD box it like comparing a 2 AA cell Maglight to HID's..... the spark from an MSD box will take you to your knees, and won't let you go. it'll give it a hotter spark and will help with the burn in the cyl and make the motor be more efficient. you will want a 6AL box, that will have a rev limiter that you can change, loan the boat out and put in a 3K RPM chip or take it out your self and put in a 6K rpm chip..... it'll teach people from borrowing yer crap...... what year is the Windsor? might want to call Summitt or Jeggs and ask them but i think that there are a few differences in how a marine motor is compaired to a regular gas motor, i've always heard the crank rotation was backwards from a car, but who knows.... my boat only has a trolling motor and a paddle....

go with msd if you want to spend $600-$800 bucks for a full system or just get a pertronix 2 system for less then $200.more than sufficiant for a stock windsor.:c:

It replaces the points with a position sensor and ring, thus no more adjusting points every week. Very worthwhile for a stock engine.
