I assume you mean that your going to the Columbia Icefield in Jasper Alberta and not the Columbia Glacier, which is in Alaska.

First of all - October isnt a very good time to go - could be full blown winter (or at least could be quite cold). August or early September is a much better choice if you can come then.

You should have absolutely no trouble.

How much diesel are we talking and what kind of tank? Depending on how much, you may need a Dangerous Good Placard which is basically a number identiifying that there is diesel in the tank. I kind of doubt that you will need that since your truck is a private vehicle and not a commercial one.

Do not worry about the exhaust - like anywhere, the key is not drawing attention to yourself. If you drive like a whiteman and show respect for the law, you wont have a problem. Heavily tinted windows on either side of the driver can cause you grief though.

Youll be fine with propane/methanol injection as well - its just as legal up here as it is down there.

If you have any more ?'s let me know - will do my best to help.

Well, if you want to see the leaves change you should probably not go to the Icefield - theres not a lot of trees up there...

The limo tint probably wont cause you a problem either a long as youre behaving yourself otherwise.

The cold isnt so much a problem as driving in the mountains during winter. You can run into some pretty bad weather/roads...but thats usually later in the year.

I will try to get an answer for you on that.

And I know of a few good spots in the bush if you want to see leaves.

You should drive from Hinton to Grande Cache:

Map of Grande Cache, AB CA by MapQuest (Youll have to zoom out a bit)

Another nice drive is north of Edson as well from Robb to Hinton.

If you want to go a bit off the beaten path and see cool things away from the highway - let me know I can help you out there.

So are you going to do most or all of your driving in Alberta?

I will tell you this from my own experience, but if you have ANYTHING at all on YOURS or HERS record and they ask about it when you get to the border, DO NOT LIE OR TRY TO HIDE ANYTHING. I was honest and they are able to pull up way more than what I thought. If you have any kind of background, they may not let you into the country at their choice anyway (especially if you lie or try to hide anything) so be prepared for that. While we were there, I saw people denied for some of the most rediculous things. Just something to think about.

oh i know that they searched us last november coming back into the states for over an hour. i call customs and there is no limit to the amount of diesel that can be transported. what they do is charge .10 cents a liter of overall fuel and charge us 5% of total amount of money of diesel. so if i take 100 gallons at 2.35 current states cost thats 51.75 just in tax for the fuel

No, I am talking about going into Canada they can pull everything up even though the states had no record because they purge them after 10 years. Long story, but I learned a lot and it screwed me.
I got searched both times we came back into the US too and we were only at the border crossing office, less than 100 yrds. away. Bunch of ***' in there at times.
