When i went through school, they had one mack day cab over with an 18 speed tranny. This truck had the hardest tranny i've ever had to try and shift.I was never able to get the hang of it.And they had a pete class 8 with a 10 speed. It was the easyest tranny to shift.

The double clutching will kill your left leg and a Mack is the worst. I only use the clutch to start rolling then I speed shift for the rest of the gears.

CumminsCrazed 05-11-2009 08:04 PM

i actually did really well today, barely ground any gears unlike my classmates in the truck!

Bosshogg 05-11-2009 11:27 PM

get in one of them old bastards with the two shift levers for the trans, should be interesting. I've not been in one personally but seen a vid or two on youtube of some fellers runnin through them gears. Way too much work by todays standards!!!

I had a friend that had a couple of older dump trucks that had the twin stick shift, and i couldn't get the hang of it but it was fun to try.

what you learn in class has almost nothing to do with day to day trucking. double clutch? whats that? you have about three years of driving with no tickets or crashes before you get a good job. if you live in iowa try to get in a bull rack. i think its about the best money besides frozen food or cars.good luck and keep us posted.

CumminsCrazed 05-24-2009 10:12 PM

my record is clean back to May of 06 for driving infractions.

74dj5d 05-26-2009 01:04 AM

start looking for a bull rack now, who knows you may luck out. do you know anything about cows? good money in it. most pay % of the load.

Yeah, especially in southern CA,I had a whole string of them pass me once then cut me off, then decide that they had to stop to take the exit....I damn near ran them all down,I managed to change lanes,or it would have been a blood bath.

CumminsCrazed 05-27-2009 12:28 PM
