Deep Cycle Battery

Has anyone ever tried the optima deep cycle battery. I have a 24v system for my trolling motors on my boat and it seems like every year or every other year I'm buying new batterys. Seriously thinking optimas but, would like some feedback before I drop $200 a battery. Or maybe there is some other brand that some one has had good luck with

Hey Jazz, I've been using the same deep cycle Optima battery for my trolling motor for 5 years now. :U: I also use an Optima battery for the main engine starter(8 years old now), it seems like the regular batteries couldn't take the pounding / wave action just screwed them up. :U:

Are you using the yellow's or blue for your tolling motor. I see they have a twin pack of yellow tops ( I think:humm:) in a nice case For $429.00 :ouch:

Look for battery recyclers or rebuilders.

There's a guy here in Phoenix that sells reconditioned redtops and bluetops for $100, with a one year warranty; then there's another guy that sells them without a warranty for $50. The $100 ones seem as good as new. The $50 are sold down in Little Mexico and I'm not entirely trusting of that one...

I'm using a yellow top for trolling motor and a blue top for the main engine starter and lights. They are pricey but worth it. :U:

on my Bayliner I run 2 8D Semi-truck batteries, I can pull 30 amps all day long off of them and still start my boat, I am going to replace them this year just as a precaution. I get them for $125 each

Get the blue tops, they'll oulast anything out there.:U:

Hey Jazz a good tip. Go to a local advanced auto and set-up a commercial account, All they need is a shop "name" and fed ID number (your SSN will work) got my red top for like $106.

Great tip:U::c: I'll have to find a advanced auto and check it out. I really want to go with optima's just can't get myself to spend 200 plus per battery

Are you talking about these Bad Boys here NEW theextremestV8d Deep Cycle 8d battery (like 8D) [Extremest8D] - $365.00 : Batteries Are Us. Man I thought optimas were expensive :ouch:

NO a real 8d truck battery weighs about...ALOT(well over 100) and we sell slightly used 8d's and 4d's for $35 a piece.

NOPE those are nuts, you can get the lead-acid 8D's for about $130 new and $50 used, they weigh about 125# but in my opinion they will outlast any optima, can be charged at 100 amps without blowing up and have awesome reserve capacity and can be stone dead and come back to life many many times.... any battery shop that specializes in them will know what they are, you can even get them at Sams/Costco most of the time

Got a Blue Top in my 5th wheel camper. Best $200.00 I ever spent. All the little power boards in the appliances and stuff in the RV draws enough to kill a "regular" deep cycle stone dead in 6-7 days if I don't throw the master cut-off switch. The Blue Top has went over a month and still more than enough butt left to run the slide out. Only thing I've noticed is it takes a lot longer to charge one then it does a lead-acid battery.
