got me a new computer
got me an ASUS Eee PC 900 ASUS 8.9" Eee PC Netbook Computer with Windows XP : Target
it was a little more than i could have got it online instead of at Target, but i'm not gonna complain about the 30 dollar difference in targets price and the online price of $299. currently trying to get all the windows updates done on it..... then to mirror my other laptop on software and it'll be my new travel computer. from what i've seen already it is well worth the money. the size is small but for those of us that travel a lot it is nice to not lug around 5-10 pounds of stuff, network cable, computer, charger, usb cable, and other accessories.... it makes my screen on this laptop (15.something) look huge....:pca1: |
nice purchase. I bought my dad one for xmas for his 1st computer ever and he's loving it. Got him the VZW evdo usb modem and service now he emails me all the time. :argh:
I almost got myself one but wound up getting another battery for my worn out 12" dell. I love small laptops. :U: |
oh ya it has a built in Microphone and webcam.....:rocking: 1 gig of Ram and weighs in at less than a Kilo....
|
Ive been thinking about buying one of these myself - my laptop is a boatanchor.
Interesting that it comes with Windows.....they sell them up here with Linux installed. |
At least it didn't come with Media Center edition. :argh:

get some virus protection for it with all the viruses floating around and ya can always get an external hard drive for it :U:

Nice laptop, good price, I have one kinda like it, really good weight to performance ratio. The Solid State Disk are better then the normal hard drives. :U:
Most all your windows programs will run (not naively, but within a Linux program called CrossOffice or WINE) (Just thought I would throw this in there) :U: |
I got my dad the one with a real drive and windows. Actually had trouble tracking it down. WINE is a biatch. I'm a linux junkie but its not worth it trying to emulate windows. You've gotta either do it and learn how to work the console or don't bother.

Friends got a Dell Mini Laptop :U:

Yea, I just bought a little Acer Aspire One. Neat little travel computer. Just gotta figure out how to download/transfer movies to a flash drive to watch. Any help? No CD/DVD drive you know.
|
depends what kinda stuff your trying to transfer. Could always pick up a usb optical drive. they have some nice slim ones now.

Yea, the whole...no cd/dvd drive killed me when I was looking...Originally was looking at a Lenovo netbook...ended up with a 17 inch HP with 4 gigs of DDR2 and 320 gig hard drive...:argh::argh::argh::argh:

Just want to be able to watch a movie on it. Don't really need to burn anything.
P.S. Sorry for the hijack Ben, but you're in the same boat with your ASUS. |

I would agree WINE can be "touchy", I use crossover pro which works better and build into my flavor of linux.

Not sure of the question here, sorry. When I transfer my movies to my laptop, I use DVDShrink and a portable USB hard-drive, I carry roughly 60+ movies with me at all times. Not sure if that was the answer you were looking for, so hopefully this helps. Also dvdshrink is free and you should never have to pay for it. |
