Doc Marten Boots??

Has anybody here ever bought this brand for actually working in an industrial setting...my boots at work have about had and im starting to look for some new ones, i would like a Wellington style pull on boot. The only problem with that is they have to be black and steel toe, and finding a pull on boot in black is a bitch...

I have found this pair from Doc Marten but dont know if they will hold up to the sparks, grease and the occasional kick to something that pisses me off.

Ive worn both Doc and Redwings.. The Docs were nice, but not very good for oilfield appilcations.. Ive worn Redwing Pecos for the last 10 yrs.. they are the boot of choice in the oilfield. :U: and I wear the red insulated boots year round.. the insulation pulls the moisture away from your feet and helps keep them cool in the summer, and then of course in the winter they keep yer feet warmer!

stkdram55 04-09-2009 10:26 AM

did the docs fall apart or were they just not good for what you were wearing them for, they will be worn in the shop 95% or the time the only time they will be out of the shop is in the winter if i have to dig a truck out of the snow or something like that.

Black pull ons eh? Yikes... But anyways, never had Docs for work but from goin out to bars in them they held up alright, but wouldn't last at work. Dunno if their "industrial" ones are any different. I wear my Carhartt boots out more then the Docs and then to work also. I love them.

These are the ones I have, can't have steel toe since they could eletrocute me :D

yeah the hole black boot is stupid, because they will be covered in grease and oil within a month and you wont be able to tell the color of them anyhow:argh:

Check out Tony Llama TLT Workboots, went from redwings to them and I'll never go back. Used to get about 10 months outa redwings, I'm at a year on the TLX's and they still look and feel good.

stkdram55 04-09-2009 11:50 AM

got a link??

Thats what I always thought, but the TLX's are still going strong

stkdram55 04-09-2009 12:13 PM

10 months? My Caterpilliars are at 2 years...one guy at work has a pair of redwings that he has been wearing for 3 years and they are still in decent shape

cashwheel 04-09-2009 12:15 PM

I'm really hard on boots, and they get exposed to allot of chemicals

redneckbuckeye 04-09-2009 12:15 PM

I am a fan of Double H boots but not sure if they have black wellingtons. Ihave only ever had DR Martens in a casual shoe, they were pretty comfortable and were about as good as any when it comes to quality.

stkdram55 04-09-2009 12:17 PM

mine get the usual...diesel, oil, grease, parts washer solvent, brake cleaner...that kinda stuff. I think i might go with the Dr. Martens and see what happens...the tony lama's look like a good boot but they only got like one pair in black w/ steel toe and they really arent the style im looking for.

biged681985 04-09-2009 12:23 PM

heres the boots i wear, i wore the first pair for 18 months before they got to where i couldnt realy wear them. the second pair, i wore as my church and going out boots for 6 months, and work boots for well over a year now. all thats wrong with them is 2 small holes in the side of one of the boots, and i replace the insoles about every 6 months. this is the only pair of shoes/boots i have ever been able to wear all day and my back not hurt.

:humm:

Red_Rattler 04-09-2009 12:30 PM

I don't care how the boots look or feel after a year, I get a new pair regaurdless. My feet and back cost alot more than a new pair of boots, plus its a tax deduction anyways... :ok1:

stkdram55 04-09-2009 01:07 PM

true, thats one reason im starting to look at new boots...they are still structually good...but my legs and feet have been hurting more and more the last few weeks and i think they might be the culprit:madd:

Oilfield_Mafia 04-09-2009 01:08 PM

The Docs I had were great boots.. just not for the oilfield..

Tony Llama TLX's is what I wear around the house, most of the time.. they are good boots for being outdoors.. but I wouldnt wanna stand on a concrete floor all day with them..

Alot of guys I know are substituting the Carhart boots with the taller shanks for their redwings.. I think either boot would suit you fine bud.:U:

Captain Call 04-09-2009 01:49 PM

If you can stand lace ups (I know you stated you would like pull on) I would look at Whites boots or Hathorn (same boot less $$$$) They are well built, last years and can be fully rebuilt. They come in black and with steel toe. If lace up isn't an option I would agree with some of the previous posts....Redwings. IMO they're worth the little extra cash. I'm going to go back to them because no other boot is as well built for what I do.

stkdram55 04-09-2009 05:00 PM

I have lace ups now just wanting to try a different boot, right now its between the redwings and the Dr. martens

KuNtRy BoY 04-09-2009 05:19 PM

Ive been wearing Timberland pro-series, they're really comfortable and hold up. Im in all kinds of diesel, grease, and haul hay for a living. Ive had this pair for about a year and so far so good. Ive had docs before, i liked them but they take a bit to break in.

06 DIESEL 04-09-2009 06:47 PM

I only wear Doc Marten boots now. I work in construction so they get used and abused all the time. My current pair I have had for almost a year and they are still holding strong. They work great on concrete or on dirt. I actually can not wear regular shoes anymore for more than a few hours without my feet and back hurting, but with the Docs I hardly have a problem. I know that Scottsjeeprolet wears Docs also and he swears by them, hopefully he will see this thread.

stkdram55 04-09-2009 07:59 PM

cool, did you have the pull on kind or just regular lace up kinds

06 DIESEL 04-09-2009 08:41 PM

I have the lace up kind, the pull on kind hurt my feet for some reason.

KuNtRy BoY 04-09-2009 09:08 PM

Pull on, so I dont det hay caught in the laces.

I had real bad luck with Docs. I went through three pairs in about a year and a half; I had the first pair for under a month when I split the soles in both using a shovel, then those got traded in for another pair that I babied for a few months until all the little nicks and scratches from being drug on concrete caused the leather to just fall apart, and then for some reason I bought another pair that also fell apart in under a year.

Leather's too soft, soles like to split, insides fall apart, the soft fabric around the top shreds, and the finger loops break. And I wasn't working in an oil field or anything, I was a 5'8" 180 pound high school/ college student when I had them.

The Georgia Boots I had after that lasted about 10 months, but they took 2 months of blisters and bloody socks to get broken in, so I'm not going to go back to them anytime soon. After those I got some Redwings, which have lasted almost a year, broke in after a couple weeks and seem to have half their lives ahead of them.

Dr. Evil 04-10-2009 12:29 AM

I had just about every kind of workboot...of course, we cant get some of the same ones you guys down south get. But, Ive had 3 pairs of Red wings and they have been pretty good for me. Red Wing can replace the soles if its needed.

stkdram55 04-10-2009 12:53 AM

one of the guys i work with swears by his redwings, he's gonna try some of their pull on's here next...but i cant see spending that kind of cash on something that might not last, i can eat $120 alot better than $215

cumminscontrol 04-10-2009 09:34 AM

dont know about doc martens in an industrial area....but justin makes a pull on boot...when i used to work on heavy equipment thats all i wore, except i always get the lace ups..they are damn comfortable and dependable..

I only paid $120 for my Redwings. And they come with free shoelaces for the life of the boot. :choochoo:
