3rd brake light

hey all, anyone know anything about wiring up a 3rd brake light, please help. i have a 07 chevy gasser 2500 with a reading utility box. my boss told me i gotta get a brake light installed on it, so i found a cheapo and hooked it up to the left tail light. i couldn't find a wire that worked the light alone. all wires in there seem to work the brake and the turn signal. so i hooked it up and it was all good for about a half year now. it passed PA state inspection, they never said anything about it anyway. well today i guess he was bored and had nothing to do from behind his computer:argh:, and gave me a call and told me i gotta just make it work with the brake alone, so what i am asking is.....where do i have to plug into, or put on to, to make this thing work. i don't really want to take it to a garage and waist time without the truck (no truck, no work, no pay:booo:). is it something simple that i can do. any help would be great. thanks much....

Is it the new body ('07.5) or the previous one?

there should be a micro switch on the brake peddel arm itself..........get yer test light and check it

i was looking for something a little closer, but where is the switch on the pedel, under the dash or under the hood.

I'm looking but having trouble finding what I am looking for so I can show you. Find the wiring for your trailer plug. I believe it is the white wire in the bundle that you are looking for. Test it with a test light to be sure. I'll keep trying to find what I'm looking for though.

i tried the trailer plug when i was installin it, and i had the same problem there. and a bunch of us told the boss that they should start runnin diesel, and he said that was a good idea and bought 3 after i got mine, so i will prolly have to wait 10 years or so before my turck falls apart and i am up for a new one:argh:

damn, should have gotten a ford:argh:. aperently they put a wire in one of the harnesses that is for that specific 3rd light. think chevy might have done this......

I'm completely drawing a blank here and can't find the diagram I need.

Some suggestions.

Check the wiring itself. I believe this wire was blunt cut just before the trailer connector or around where the loom came down from the frame.

Option B is to run a wire from the original 3rd brake light.

Option C is to run a wire from the left junction block inside the truck. That's where the wire that feeds your 3rd light comes from. It starts out orange coming into and out of the block and changes to a blue one after passing through a connector.

Sorry, man. Wish i could have done something.

hey thanks any how. i just rechecked all the wires at the back of the truck. i unpluged the main conector from the junction box at the rear on the frame, and the wires in there are giving me the same reading for both the turn and the brake. next i guess i will check under the hood at that box and see if i can get only a brake reading. there has to be a brake only wire some place. i don't really want to go from the orig. 3rd and try to feed a wire nicely from it, but i am runnin outa options fast here. thanks for everything i will let you know what i find.

ok, well i got it figured out. i just simply ran off the 3rd brake that was there and ran back the frame with the harness for the rear lights, then shot up thru the body in behind the drivers tail light. snuck it up thru the utility box with some of that plastic tube stuff and hooked up the ground to the screw holding the light on. i don't know if this was the best way to do it, but hey it works without blinkin, so i guess it will keep the boss off my back, well till he notices some other things.........:w2:
big thanks to johnny cetane for the help he could get me:U::pals:
