Its sad but true, the government can't tell you to stop driving our large gas guzzlers so they are trying to play a game to force it. The simple truth is if we all would cut our driving by as little as 10% (10 miles per 100) the demand would go down nationally and so would the price of fuel.
By using vegi oil as fuel, i have made the move to cut my fuel use by more like 95%.

The simple fact of the matter is that North America is generally LAZY when it considers alternatives. Don't take that as a slap in the face - we drive diesel we know it is better. All I'm saying is that your dependancy (continent wide) is based on ideology of the 1970's. Bigger is better, the push rod V8, the HP number on the sales sticker and so on.

The general pulbic drives torque but they buy HP. They wouldn't know the difference if it smacked them in the cheeks honestly.

The entire bit about hybrids and smaller cars is bunk. The issue we have collectively is comfort. Our cities are built for the most part to have a commute to work. Those of us that drive need to because we live too far away from a major centre to take public transit, walk or bike to work. Then there are those of us that need the large vehicle for work.

Ex: on distance drive from Vancouver BC to Calgary AB it takes anywhere from 10 to 13 hours with an approx. distance of 650 miles. Do that in Europe and you have not only gone across provincial lines and 7 major cities but you are in a differnt country now. Canada and the USA are the largest single countries in the world now - I think Canada is the largest actually but that's not my point here. What I'm getting at is we are spread out. Outside of Toronto, New York, Boston, Dallas and LA (sure there are others) we are pretty spread out. EU is not.

Anyway, my 2 bits.

Hey now my country is bigger then your county.:w2:

Both of you have good points, but the way I see it they only want to raise the tax, so they can give more $$$ to the tree huggers and the people in the welfare line.
