I'm not a tech but I am a tool salesman and all my heavy Duty shops are staying busy right now. They dont have teh 3 month back up that they used to have but they are still swamped. It is such a speacialty market that they will stay busy through the REAL bad times.

Im a heavy equipment mechanic and i love every minute of it. one thing that i will say is if you like to work on your own stuff dont become a mechanic. It is a sweet job the pay is great. You also have to deal with alot of people who think they know what they are doing and try to fix everything but they just make it worse. There aint nothin better then to look at a fleet of toys and know that they are running great thanks to you. You will also have 70 to 80 hour work weeks.:yeah: Cause that means lots of over time and money for the truck and misses.

Im a light duty diesel tech. I work for a local Dodge dealer in Albuquerque NM. i love my job and the trucks that i work on. The pay is great but during the winter months it a little ruff but in the summer makes up for it. If u want to work on diesels that kodos to u. Good Luck.

I went to school for diesel technology, got a job wrenching at an International dealership. Pay wasn't that great for entry level tech but you'll have that. I loved it ... Tools are expensive, but experience is priceless. I got burnt out on it after about an year and a half. Got a job offer I couldn't refuse so I quit.. We stayed busy though. Good luck , you'll love it

I'm a light duty diesel mechanic for a GM dealership and I love it. There is always something new to work on and everyday is different. If you dont mind pulling some 50-60 plus hour work weeks then you'll fit right in. During the winter we arent as busy as in the summer but I still have yet to dip below 30 hours a week this winter. Currently at our dealership we are backed up for about 4 days but in the summer its has been as much as 3 weeks with all the work that we get. Good luck!
