Blackberry Storm Question
Who has one and how do you like it?
Any tips and or tricks you've noticed... From a Blackberry Storm owner. |
I have one and I really like it. My wife has the Iphone and you cannot really compare the 2 other then being touchscreen. I use mine for business while she uses hers more for the cool applications.
If it gets slow press and hold the menu key until it opens a small menu. Go into each one of those and close them out until only 5 applications are running. You have to close every application or the thing really slows down. Turn the brightness down to 20% you really cannot tell a difference and the battery will last all day. I talk on my phone about 5k per month so I am always on it, the battery life is awesome. Go to Best Buy and buy the $30.00 screen protector, they are much better then the pack you buy from Verizon and they are lifetime warranty. Get the desktop docking charger and it turns in to a digital or analog night stand clock with a nice alarm as soon as you dock it. Do not accept the updates in the morning if you need to use for phone in the next 3-4 hours as it takes that long for the updates to come through. I got mine 2 days before they shipped them out so I have one of the beta phone but it is updated to the most current software. I have had numerous other Blackberry's and this one is my favorite. I just wish it had wi-fi. |
Well, I got it because I hate AT&T, have Verizon and figured this was the closest we're gonna come. All I want to get on it when the 3rd party app store drops is Pandora like on my Ipod touch.
I messed up two of the screen protectors from Verizon, is the Best Buy one that much better? I hadn't played around with the brightness settings. I did clean up to where there are only four icons on the portrait view. That helped a lot. As far as updates, I haven't really gotten any. I did one and it took maybe an hour to do the update. I check usually once a week to see if there are any new updates. Do you have a link to the desktop dock? I've got the clock to where I like it but I can't find anything to display it right for me. Have you put any media on it? I put some music on it. Most all of my Itunes synced right up, but my movies from Itunes did not :booo::booo::booo:. That really sucked. I love the camera on this thing, great flash as well. The only bad is that it is kind of a long wait. For still images it's great, but don't do anything fast. Some youtube videos don't work. :booo: Overall I'm just waiting for the 3rd party app store to come out, then all hell is gonna be broken loose on the Iphone :yeah::yeah::yeah: |
The docking station you can buy at your local Verizon store.
The screen protectors are 100 times better. I went through 3 of the Verizon brand in a week, I bought the one at Best Buy and it looks like the day I bought it. I have downloaded my music off of Itunes (my daughter did actually). The camera is great but yes it is slow. The nice thing is I forward text messages to me to my email so I have them in my outlook so when I clean out my old text messages I do not lose all of my text messages that are important. Hold the menu key down for 3 seconds, if more then 5 apps open you can close them and your phone is super fast. Off the top of my head (browser, mail, contacts, home, call log) are always on. Those you cannot close, anything else need to be closed. If you have not used the Navigation try it, it is free for 30 days but man is it nice. It is better then my trucks and my wife's hand held garmon nuvii. Another thing about this phone that I love is the visual voicemail. |
yea...I've got navigation...just wish my headunit in my truck had bluetooth...it's nice that the directions can come through your bluetooth headset though.
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- newegg.com has the cradle for 15 bucks is that good? |
I think I paid $50.00 for mine, if it is the same thing then I would say buy it.

Old thread here...
Anyone know of any good Blackberry sites?? I know there were some posted here but the only one I could find was CrackBerry.com ? The #1 Site for BlackBerry Users & Abusers |
crackberry.com is really the only one worth it... eveek.com isn't bad...but crackberry has it all...
Oh yea...NEW VERIZON UPDATE FOR THE STORM...it's awesome |
Thanks Phil.
Hey, do you know what brand that good screen protector is that you guys were talking about? I just got a new blackberry for work - unfortunately its a Curve.... |
it's called invisible shield....go to ZAGG | invisibleSHIELD | iPhone, iPod Cases, Screen Protectors, Covers, Shields, Skins, Invisible Shield order it directly from there...lots cheaper than best buy...they wanted 20 bucks for just the screen protector for my storm...direct from zagg...it's 25 for whole body protection.

I am on my 3rd storm now, I can tell you if you tap the screen when it freezes up do it softly. I barely tapped my screen and it shattered. The phone they replaced it with (brand new in the box) it still freezing up.
The invisible shield is awesome, I have put the same one on all 3 phones, just get the screen damp before you put it back on and it will stick. |
wish I would have known that...I'm on my third...got my fourth one in fedex and upgraded my current one. I'm sending the new one back...still in the box.

---AutoMerged DoublePost--- BTW- home screen, browser, phone, blackberry messenger and messages cant be closed and will always be open. When you use the menu button trick you can close any other programs that are running. :ok1: |
My big problem was the memory leak shutting the phone down. I had one right out of the box, refurb albeit, but it shut down within an hour. Then it shut down five to six times per hour. I did a full wipe and it got better, but it was still about once an hour. My two previous ones were about once a day battery pulls. With the new OS update, I have had no memory leak problems.
|
Ok...gotcha. I did notice that I was having to reboot about once a day initially but since I have the memory cleaner running everything is fine. BTW- I found a neat little program called "Quickpull" that allows your to perform a reboot from the home screen without pulling the battery. Do a search under the BB Apps and you'll find it. :U:
