Default 390 heart transplant?

Alright guys That old ford truck of mine is getting a heart transplant and sadly it's not a diesel like i had dreamed. My sister is wanting the gmc back and It's not that i don't love my sister but it gets really annoying when she wants to borrow it. SO i've made the decision to put black betty back on the road, and at the moment the motor and trans is out of the truck. The million dollar question is will this motor came out worth rebuilding or just trade it in on a long block? For those of you that don't know about the 360 big block ford the main two problems was the main berings going out on the account of unbalanced cranks. The other issue was with the valve stem seals went out at about 80k mi. Oh a remand long block 390 runs about 1700 bucks. A little input would be great guys. Thanks, Lucas

i'd put in a 460 and a c-6. you can normally find old Lincoln Town Cars from way back that have decent running motors in them for ~$500. a friend had a 91ish f350 short wheelbase reg cab w/ a 460. the original motor spun a bearing, replaced the crank, put in new bearings and the oil pump locked up. bought a running driving Towncar for $400 and yanked the motor out and had it in in a night, ran it a year till it got down on power, then found another Towncar W/a bad tranny for 200 and put that motor in there and it ran good till it got repoed.....

Tell your sis to get her own ride and keep the Ford the way it is till you find a 12V.... If that doesn't work is the 360 running or in good shape??? If not you'll easily drop a grand into it. But if you go the long block route are parts off of the 360 in goo enough shape to transplant onto the 390? Lotsa options to look at.

I'll have a 351Windsor soon that I'll let go of. It runs good just wont be needed. Will also have trans and T-case.

Is your truck a 4x4 or 4x2?

You can buy a running 460 with a C6 for less than the cost of a long block FE engine and have all the accessories, etc to bolt it in. You might have to do some work with engine mounts, linkages, and such but it will still cost less than a reman FE, and unless you're dealing with a performance house long block chances are your expensive reman will have the same issues the stock engine had.

Hate to see good money thrown after bad, but an FE can run it just takes a decent amount of cash for the right parts....sounds like you don't really have a ton to spend.

Did the 360 run before you took it out? If so, how bad was it? It might make it a long time yet....

Benjamin is correct !!! The best bet is to buy a used 460 towncar, which are being sold cheap, cause no one wants a car the size of the QUEEN MARY !!

the truck is a 4x2 and the engine made some kind of funny noise at idle however it wasn't normal. I think i I'll be snooping around and be looking for engines and what not. I will NOT put up with a stock engine. (no offense to those of you guys that do) I will keep yall posted on this issue. Thanks guys.

Nothing beats the sound of a hot running FE. Go 390 and sink some money into it.
