Local gun shop is selling armory reconditioned WW-II Russian Mosin-Nagant 91/30 rifles with matching numbers, bayonet, sling, cleaning kit, oiler and English manual for $79.99.

If anyone is looking for a good, accurate bolt action rifle that fires a cartridge comparable to a .30-06 (7.62x64R), the Mosin-Nagant is a good choice, and seeing as there were over 17 million of them made, it shouldn't be hard to find one close by.

Yea man. Those rifles sure gave the Germans hell, especially in the hands of people like Vasili Zaitsev.

History lesson:

Zaitsev was credited with 242 kills at Stalingrad. He received the Order of Lenin and by the end of the war; he personally had accounted for 400 Germans and was declared a Hero of the Soviet Union.

K98's are available for dirt cheap too.

Only concern I'd have is how rare the ammunition for either gun would be?

Not sure about the 8mm Mauser for the K98, which is an awesome rifle by the way, but 7.62x54R can be bought in bulk pretty easily. Sportsman's Guide has 182gr FMJ loads, 150rds for $39.95.

A few years ago I bought the MOSIN NAGANT M44, which is the short barrel one, and it's a great shooter for the money, I also bought a 400 rounds ammo can. I paid $80 for the rifle and $40 for the ammo. MAKE SURE YOU CLEAN THE BARREL WITH WINDEX, cause 7.62X54r is corrosive ammo !!!:ok1:

I ended up buying one of those 91/30's plus 40rds of surplus ammo and gave it to my father-in-law today. He's not only one of my best friends, he's a 73 year old former Marine who would really love to have an M1 Garand like he hauled around all those years ago, but a decent M1 costs as much as his measly retirement pays him in a month. He had several nice rifles stolen 15 years ago and never had enough money to replace any of them.

I took the Nagant down to show him "my" new rifle. His eyes lit up as he handled the 65 year old WW-II relic and I told him some of the history of the Mosin-Nagant. He worked the bolt, sighted down the barrel and even tried to remember some of his old drills, though he was a little "rusty". :w2:

He finally handed it back, smiling his approval. I asked him "do ya like it?", to which he replied "oh yea". I then handed it back to him and said, "Good. Cause it's yours". I thought the old dude was gonna cry.
