HOLY CRAP!!!!!

ok....get this, so i was taking a shower and our overhead light went out i was like ok whatever and kept going about my business.....a min or 2 later i hear this real loud like a POP or something and i look outside the shower curtain to see the light had exploded hard enough to not only shatter the light bulb itself but ALSO the glass cover that screws on under the light. It shattered hard enough that pieces of glass were basically covering out tile floor in our bathroom and it went under the door onto our hardwood floor in the hallway. You can only imagined what i looked like trying to wlk out of the bathroom and down the hallway to my room after my shower! LOL!

Now, this was one of those "energy saving" curly lights. Are those filled with that dangerous gas like the big "beam" lights in schools and commercial buildings and stuff? If so what can i do to minimize that gas thats now roaming around our upstairs.

#1. I dont even want to imagine what you look like walking out of the shower.
#2. Dont have a clue about the gas I'm still trying to get that image out of my head:tttt:

shut up guys....id really like to know about any toxic gas that may have been in that more than the self humor.

DB Admin 12-18-2008 01:06 PM

the gas is already gone

CumminsCrazed 12-18-2008 01:40 PM

well yeah but the gas that WAS in it.....is that harmful to be breathed in or not

dieselartist 12-18-2008 02:07 PM

It's dissipated, nothin' to worry about :)

I remember a video, probably on here somewhere, that took place in the (House of Rep?) I think. They were discussing the gas as a Haz Mat and how to clean it up, discard of the bulb, etc.. Too much red tape for me.

Me, I'd clean up the glass and move on. I've never seen one explode though. Mine have just stopped working so I replace it.

i actually called poison control center just to be sure.....and the mercury is little silver beads that get evaporated when they heat up etc. She didnt say anything about health hazards though so there cant be much to worry about. She said the light bulbs actually have less mercury than a thermometer has.
