Cleaning a cast iron grate on a gas grill?

Well what is the best safest? I'm new to fancy grills and have heard just veg. oil and a paper towel, soap/ no soap, heat, wire brush / no wire brush, lard because veg oil will go rancid... I'm confused and hungry with a very dirty grill.

Thanks

I don't do anything special. Heat the grill up on high for 20 minutes. That burns the fats off.
Then hit it with a wire brush. It doesn't look brand new, but it works great...
I've heard about seasoning the cast iron with veg oil. I don't do any of that. I scrape it and cook...

Good luck with it..:U:

When its brand new you are supposed to clean it good with soap and water to get rid of any dino type oil (from manufacturing) and then heat and season it with veg oil - after that, you should only need to clean it with the old wire brush. if you wash it again, with soap and water, you need to reseason with vegetable oil.

Thank you I'll go get a stainless wire brush and quit trying to clean it with a paper towel with veg. oil on it.
