Mikey failed to mention that it was given to us by my aunt. It has less than 100k miles and has been sitting in her garage for about a year due to a bad thermostat. She had the new thermostat and everything else to make it good. She just didn't want to mess with it due to having a brand new Honda. The car originally came from my other aunt and was bought brand new by her and was kept up religiously. The engine compartment shows no leaks of any kind and looks like new. I'll post more pics when I get it off the trailer.

Say NO to fart cans !!
Plus they are illegal in Alberta. |
fart cans are you :edit: kidding me. rotary engines are cool but say no to the fart cans put a straight pipeand and call it a day
|
fart pipes don't sound too bad on rotaries.... is that a turbo car or a N/A car? those motors are SOOOOOO light. i bet if you had to remove it Mikey could pull it out.....
|
mikey I say do the LS1 swap, because ive seen it in a newer rx7 and that thing is bad:U:

Bet I know a source of info and pats for that LS1 swap. 170mph RX7 is kinda cool.
|
I had an rx-7 in that color. Fun little car, I'll be the first to admit I wish I had held on to it.
It developed a front seal leak and I wanted something new. - My bad... Mine was an 84' GSL. Good luck with the new toy.. :U::U::U: |

they had turbos on different models but I'm going to save up and buy a turbo for it and a cold air intake, and a muffler. hopefully it will be running soon. |
I still say ls1 swap. but its your car what ever makes you happy mikey

well maybe you could get a supercharger instead of turbo, just a thought
Camden SuperChargers - Get a Supercharger kit for you're Mazda Rx7 13B Rotary Here is your source for apex seals. their very important in a rotary engine. i heard this guy talk at a airshow about rotary engines and is very knowlegable. he had these motors running against big blocks in the NHRA and he won a lot of the time until they got rid of his class AtkinsRotary.com :: 1st Gen Rx7 79-85 :: Engine... hope this helps |
We got our own resident expert on these little cars in stock form right here in house. Just get a hold of Bow2no1.
It's a real pain to change a naturally aspirated motor over to a turbo, not to mention more expensive then it's worth in most cases. |

Did you ever notice that Fartcan and Fail start with the same letter? Think that's a coincidence???
Nice little ride there fellas. I vote LS1 or you can find some really good deals on LT1 engines. They're a little tougher to get power out of but they're fun. |

Finally got more pics loaded.
Attachment 54542 Attachment 54543 Attachment 54544 We changed the oil, after I found the sticker and that oil only had about 500 miles on it. :argh: New thermostat and coolant. We siphoned all the gas out of it and put fresh in it. The thing still will not start. Any ideas? |
change the fuel filter?
what about that carb up top? is it cleaned? Fuel pump working? electric or mechanical? the floats could be stuck in the up position, that is if it is a carb.... dono much about them thangs..... |
check all the eletrical.:humm: are the spark plugs getting spark.:humm: just a thought but pour some racing gas in the carb to see if it starts. have some water near by though.:w2:
just tune the thing up and make sure the engine is getting fuel and spark. i would say check compression but i have no idea how to do that on a rotary engine |
hmm won`t start swap it lol:U::pca1:
|
verify it gets fuel and fire, then it is highly likely its flooded out. the rotaries are super notorius for flooding, even the brand new injected ones flood. remove spark plugs ( all 4 are on drivers side mid way down on block) clean and dry plugs, remove fuel source to carb or at least hold accel to floor. crank engine for 10-30 secs. then squirt a ounce or so oil in each rotor through plug holes. install plugs, pour a couple ounces down carb and re-apply fuel source. start cranking engine over, and you will probably need to keep foot to floor and it will eventually build compression and begin to fire. oh and be prepared for smoke. and its best to replace spark plugs and buy a spare set and put in glove box. and if flooded may want to check oil for fuel saturation.
|
I know it is getting good clean fuel now (smell) and she tries to fire, but just can't seem to do it. I pulled the spark plugs and Mikey scrubbed them good with a wire brush the size of a toothbrush. The plugs on top had oil on them, but not the ones on the bottom.
Are you saying to dump some oil in the carb. too? Thanks for the help, I gotta get this thing running. :ok1: |
just a litlle bit of oil, down carb, maybe a good way is to use a jar with a vac hose in jar and hooked to manifold vac. let the engine draw a 1-2 ounces through the hose. you need to probably hold accel wide open to help with possible de-flood condition. they can take a while to finally bust off. just dont burn starter up. its good to put a boost charger on battery for a faster spin. let starter cool. sometimes it take a quite a few crankings and it will finally start then ease off throttle and feather it for a min or two untill it quits smoking. somepeople try using a little ether but thats dangerous
|
so has this started
|
It has been over a month now...
|
I forgot all about this thread.
I put new plugs in and finally got it running a couple of weeks ago. You guys wouldn't believe the smoke that came out of that thing. I drove it around for a couple of hours and it ran fine, no overheating or anything. :yeah: But now, I have a different problem. A few days after running it, I went to run to the store in it, and after starting it, the add coolant alarm went off. I shut it off and popped the hood and had coolant spraying out of the vent cap on the overflow bottle. :argh: What appears to be happening is that the radiator is building up pressure really quick as if it isn't getting into the engine. I thought maybe the water pump just quit. Any ideas? |
