Default Mayan Riviera

I'm headin to Mexico to the Mayan Riviera the first week of Jan and was wondering if anyone who had been there before had any tips or recommendations on any day trips or sight seeing I should be doing ..... or if I should just sit on the beach and take full advantage of the all inclusive

Anywho let me know, any tips or tricks I should know are more than welcome!

Depends what you're into and how long you'll be there. Your resort will have some things you can do on the beach, but it usually gets old fast. I really enjoyed a snorkeling trip over there where you went down a river into the ocean, then also swam around in a cenote (cave full of water). If you have time, then get out and check it all out, if you're tight on time then i would just kick back and let them bring you drinks on the beach.

I'm going to Cabo San Lucas this year, but I prefer the East side of Mexico for the greenery.

Cool, I'm planning on going on at least one of those day trips. I really wana go swim with the dolphins and go in those caves... I think they were in the same place.
Hopefully I have time to go check out some ruins too.

I have never been on the eastside before, only to Puerto Vallarta where the water was brown and foamy so I think I'll enjoy the other sided!

Went there 3 years ago onmy honeymoon. It was great. We went to Playa del Carmen on day to shop/bargain and look around. We also went to Tulum which was really cool. Take your swimsuit so you can swim there. We did not do the full guided tour because we get bored with those. We just listened in off and on. Excaret was ok, but not great. When we went there were not too many fish to see. Everything in the park was overpriced.

Never ever pay asking price for anything from a vendor. If you start walking away they will usually chase you down and come off the price even more.

Where are you staying? We stayed at the El Dorado Royale.

NOPROBLEM should chime in soon. He has been there many times.

When checking out the ruins, remember that they were built for really short people. I whacked my head pretty good turning to leave and not ducking through a doorway.

I defenately wanted to hit Tulum and I was thinking xcaret cause it said they had dolphins and cave swimming.
As for the tours I know my girlfriend and I will probably get bored with them quite fact. (more of the exploring type than museum listen to boring facts type)

Grand Palladium Riviera Resort and Spa is the place we will be staying.

Should I be booking some of these tours in advance or wait till I get down there or does it even matter, cause I'm going on the 6th of Jan so it shouldnt be super busy.

Sorry but I could see myself doing the exact same thing more than once!

No need to book to much in advance. When you get there take a look at what's available and try to plan it out then, you'll have a better idea of how much you want to hang out vs run around.

That part of Mexico is my favorite and I have been all over it. Elderado Royale is the nicest place in that area. If you are going to stay there look into upgrading to the swim up casita, (you will never want another kind of room).

Do not plan on spending a ton of time in the water there, too much corral and the current is too strong. If you want to take a day trip go to Playa and take the catamaran over to Cozumel to go snorkeling, they have the best scuba/snorkeling on Earth.

You can go to X carat although that is not my favorite thing to do. You can also go to Tulum which is a nice place to go.

If you are into playing golf there is some great golf courses but the best one is in Downtown Playa and it is all inclusive also.

Go site seeing in Playa, the Mayan Riviera is not really for site seeing more for relaxing. Get a private car (with driver) and have him take you into town. Ask him to take you further south from Playa and enjoy some of the areas that have not been ruined by tourist. They have some beautiful things to see just by getting a driver and exploring.

I will try to find some photos for you but I do not have any on this computer. Let me know if you have an specific questions about places down there. I have been down there numerous times as Dave said.

Sorry I just saw your last post, if you are going to book excursions do it through fun jet or the group you booked your travel through. They will set up shop in the lobby of the resort. They will not steer you in the wrong direction and they are there for you. So use them.

Also Jan 6th the water is going to be a little chilly, we went in March of last year and the pools were too cold to get in. The Ocean was way too cold for sure.

I am sure that you have been told but brush your teeth with bottled water they will refill them everyday so hide a few so you do not run out.

Damn my travel agent said it would be fine for ocean swimming and everything cause I told her we would probably spend alot of time in the water. Well I hope it aint way too cold. I wasnt expecting anything like hawaii for the water temp. but I was hoping to do lots of snorkeling and swim up bar-ing.

As for the tours I was hoping to go to tulum for sure and was kinda hoping on swimming with some dolphins somewhere.... or at least get in some good snorkeling, my gf has never been anywhere before so I'm sure she'll have a blast anyway.

I was wondering too what abouts those tours cost ballpark all said and done per person for the day or however long it is.
