Any interesting jobs out there?
 

Just curious if anyone has heard of any interesting jobs opening up? It is sounding more and more like lay-offs are a possibility so I'm researching options. I'd really like to stay in construction management, but not sure that now is a good time to be looking for a new job. Also wondering if someone upstairs isn't trying to tell me something since I've only been doing this for six months. My degree is in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Land Surveys. I did surveying for 23 months before making the switch, 2-3 months of that was as a Party Chief. I have a couple fall back options, but not necessarily my first pick as I don't think I'm ready for a full-time desk job. Let me know if you've heard of anything, even if it has nothing to do with my background. Some type of specialty/industrial sales is something I have always thought about, but not sure if I can afford to start at the bottom financially. Not really sure what those kind of positions start at though. Anyway, let me know if you hear of anything interesting.

we are still strong out here in Wyoming but this place aint for everyone............warm climate folk usually check out about half way into winter

the oilfied jobs are strong out here and always looking for help..........starting pay is 30 bucks hr but be prepared cuz you will earn every cent of that and work yer ass off

I have always wanted to try the cold....I can't stand the freakin heat. You can always put more clothes on, but you can only go so far in the heat....:w2: :moon:

I'm just not sure i want to move a long ways from family without a family of my own. Hangin out with the family is one of the things that I enjoy the most. If it comes down to it though, we'll just see what happens. Until then I'm keeping my eyes open.

Who do you currently work for? I am in the same field and we are also experinecing a slow down out here.

JR Filanc Construction, specialize in Water and Wastewater treatment plants. Southwestern region only. Have some small work up in Phoenix right now, quite a bit finishing up in SoCal, one job we were hoping to park a bunch of people at in Vegas, but it just got canned. Our biggest issue is that we have 4 or 5 jobs all ending with in 4 months of each other and nowhere to put people right now. After having done this for 6 months, and enjoying every minute of it, I just keep asking myself if someone upstairs isn't trying to tell me something?

Most of the time your moving around so you keep pretty warm. Most drilling rigs have decent winterizing around the rig floor and steam heaters set up. If you do get cold, the boiler shed is the place to hide out.

Sounds like a good place to work, you build the sheet plant before it stinks. If you really like that kind of work you might look for another company that does the same thing; just not so specalised. We work in all industries and are nation wide with over 2,000 employees across the country. In the two years I have been with the company I have worked on a university doing infrastructure work (the stuff in the ground that no one sees), getting ready to work on another university to do some small rebuild stuff; new enterance to the parking lot, new stairs, new pedistrian bridge. I am also working on a jobsite that has two six story buildings first floor retail and the rest residential as well as all of the infrastructure work currently.

They are finally starting to branch out into other areas as there is a lot of work for what we do, but not enough to reach the financial goals that the company has. I'm going to have a little faith for a couple months and see what happens. I'm keeping my eyes and ears open, but not making any major decisions. Right now is all the fun stuff of starting things up and making the plant work. Got to fire up some pumps at the intake structure for the plant......10,000-11,000 gallons per minute per pump with 3 pumps.....was funny listening to the guys on the other end of the pipeline trying to get the water moved around at the plant and keep from flooding things out since we weren't putting it into distribution yet.
