and i am a civilian. my millitary carreer comes to an end on 10/12/08
some of you remember me having back to back knee surgerys on both left and right knees. 6/24 and 9/24 2007. as of april 7 2008 doc and i desided that though the surgerys did help and made life more cofortable i would not be fit enough for the Navy and it wasnt for me any more thus we and put in a package for a medical discharge under Hounorable conditions.

the Physical Evaluation Board results came back today. 20% disability, severance check and a medical discharge. so with in 42 days i will be a civilain again for the first time in over 8 years 6 months.

the good thing about this. is
1 i can get some debt knocked out gettting closer to debt free goal.
2 get my truck up and running again
3 i will have a terminal date..(10/12/08) meaning i can actually bother to fill out aplications
4 take a real vacation

so that is what is going on with me havent been around alot latley...

I only have 13 months left bro!! I would stay in, but there isn't enough money in it!! I love my job and what i do!! Just wish there was more $$ in it!! I put in 12 and 13 hour days and no more money!! So i decided to get out!! Good luck with everthing!

honestly... i didnt start really making money till my 6year mark. currently im ~50k a year with 8+ years as a E-5 i have had several job offers starting out porbainatary 10-20% high then that.

def going to miss the tax free commisary stuff and other perks.

Yes i will miss all the perks!! The military is nice, and most all the people and great!! I will miss it as well!! :c::c:

I would go for 100% as soon as you get out, you can still work, but with the benefits for you and the family, there is no substitute!!!! and itr is not as hard as some think!!! I was discharged in 1994 the same way, 20% under Honorable conditions, I even got my Honorable Certificate from my C.O., but I waited until 2001 to seek an increase when my back got worse and the doctor at the VA hospital told me I should have tried for the increase immediately after being discharged... I get a total of $52,000 a year now, and can still work some, I can't physically handle working all of the time, (the back is just too bad) but I can make some extra with some bus things I have started and not lose my pension! It may take a little time, but you have nothing to lose!!!:U:

You mean you have to be active to buy stuff at the PX/BX? I know several people who are ex-military and still shop at the PX/BX. :humm:

You have to be active duty, or retired.

after 10/12/08 the only way i get on base is some one sponsors me

Unless things have changed it is based on the disability rating the military gives you if you are rated at 30% or higher you are retired have full retired benefits if it is less than 30% you are given a severance check no benefits.

yes, that is currently how it works. 30% or higher is more hassle and unneeded BS for what was worng with me. IMO save that for the guys that are more broke than i am.

i plan on being in houston/baytown on the 9th

atleast you dont have to worry about getting stop-lossed.........hey there is always contractor work like i do........alot of companies prefer military experience......
