CROP SPRAYING

I got this footage from our back deck. This guy is nuts, but he is damn good with his plane.

those pilots are all kinds of crazy. I watched one spraying next to I-74 heading west into Illinois. He would come across the interstate then make a big turn and come dive bombing back across all 4 lanes. I swear he just missed a semi by inches. Might even be tire scuff marks on top of the trailer. I cant even imagine what was going thru the trucker's mind when that plane flew by.

Yes sir, they are damn good at what they do! They do this all the time around here, its a blast to watch'em, it would defiantly be a fun ride! :rocking:

We are only renting and they were there. I actually think they look kind of cool where they are. Price on one says .13 and the other says .29, don't we wish.

Cool videos. Thanks for sharing!

good video, mike. That looked like an Air Tractor 502. I've grown up around these things, my dad's owned a business wrenching and fabricating on 'em for over 30 years now, I'm pretty mechanically inclined and have loved growing up around these absolutely impressive machines and pilots. Now I'm licensed and wrench full time for pops, trying to learn how everything's done.

looked like this guy's really good. you should see if you can get ahold of the pilot(contact the farmer of that field, for starters) and see if he'll let you shoot some more video with a better angle or maybe from one of your rooftops. looked like he was showing off a bit for ya, so that's cool. they can get kinda spooked when there's people stopped to watch or shooting video, there's a lot of idiots begging for lawsuits, so they've gotta do a lot of CYA and check on who's stopped/watching or just leave and come back.

Yea, it'd be all fun, until it wasn't. Then it'd be all over. :U:

The Thrushes aren't built so well but the Air Tractors are really strong, light and have a bunch of power and a tube frame with crumple zones built in...the wrecks in these things seem to be either the pilot doesn't have a scratch or you're picking up pieces of the helmet. contact with the ground is usually anywhere from 140-200mph, so it's either an 'exciting ride' or it's game over instantly. and while it is somewhat common to hear about these guys crashing, they spend more time flying low than most of us spend driving our trucks!

as for getting a ride, there are a few two seaters out there, the Air Tractor 802 (1.2+ million dollar bird) is the main one right now. most of the operators with fire bombing contracts will have these and a few ag guys, too. most guys are willing to take someone up as long as you haven't eaten for a bit and take a bag with you. I'd say the difference between a roller coaster and a ride in one of these is like driving a 4 cylinder S10 or an 800hp diesel. and I don't mean a 4BT S10, either.

That's a little different that the flyin machine I use to spray , mine never gets off the ground , it just flies apart occasionally... :argh:

Yeah, my son knows the guy because he is a relative of the people that own the dairy farm that he spent the summer on. The guy actually took Mikey up in a 2 seater that his buddy owns. He already said I could do all the video I want. I just need a better camera. I did that with my Sony Cyber Shot. Takes excellent pics, but the video is not so great as you see. I'll have to see what I can do.
