TINTED WINDOWS!!

Got a question for guys@gals stateside. Do you people get harrassed for tinted windows? is it legal in some areas? It really is gettin to be a major prob up here in Alberta, seems ya gotta have ur eyes open all the time for the checks...Some areas here they just give u a fine, and last week here in Red Deer AB. he made me tear it off right there.. LOL he even had the razor blade to help out..I got lucky he just made me tear off the drivers door, I think there was so many vehicles there he just wanted me to get moving. It was either take it off now or we impound ur truck...:madd:

BLACKDX 08-22-2008 06:34 PM

WOW I can see where this is going...Basically here they just look for the tint lines and thats it...Tester what is that? So there is no states where it is legal?

DB Admin 08-22-2008 06:54 PM

Tint them The worst that could happen is you get a warning or a small fine its worth it , good for kids and security purposes

We are looking at getting the windows tinted in our "mini van" :duh3::duh3::duh3::pca1:

Figure it will make the back darker/cooler for the dog & help keep prying eyes off anything in the van.

Problem is we are also planning a trip out of state next summer and possibly a trip up to Sask & some states force you to remove the window tint if you are driving in that state even though your vehicle is plated/registered in a different state.

Been hemming and hawing about the tint as we don't want to be forced to remove it by some jack booted thug in a different state as we pass through.

Most states its perfectly legal to have all your windows tinted except for the drivers door, because they are worried about the cops safety but IMO if i was a cop id be worried about the "homies" in the back of the SUV not the driver:argh:

its NOT legal in this crappy stage of Michigan, 2 tickets and Im up to $180 in tint ticket fines so far this year.....

pay the ticket or go with no tint.... Ill gladly pay the ticket! I absolutely hate not having tinted windows OR riding in a vehicle w/o tint.

I've got 5% on my 01... yes that is tint on the top and bottom of the front windshield and 20% on the 06

I'm going in tomorrow to finish getting 20% all around...Llumar...getting a brow too 100$ is that a good price:tttt:
I'll probably get a layer of 15 over the back two and the rear window...just to make it real dark.:U:

In Texas it is legal as long as it is 30% on the fronts (maybe wrong on the %) , you can have painted windows everywhere else on the vehicle. I have limo tint on all the windows in my truck and 15% on the car. (only because the limo tint does not match as well, and the thicker tint tends to not stick to the crap on the back window as well)

I have never had a problem, if I get pulled over I just roll all the windows down before the cop approaches the truck so he/she can see in.

wildbill 09-07-2008 11:55 PM

Montana, it can't be less than 24% in front & 14% in the back on cars or trucks

2001shrtbedcummins 09-08-2008 08:52 PM

Well mine ended up being 15% with a 6-8 inch brow...looks pretty good...haven't seen it in daylight yet.

Here in California it is illegal..

Worst part is the judges are tired of it and they are making in non- dismissable.. in other words you have to pay the fine and it is also a point on your driving record... Judges answer to isn't it just a fix it ticket.. No you intentionaly did it.. fix-it tickets are for stuff you don't know about like a tail light out.. (this is Los Angeles..)

Big_Johnson 10-28-2008 11:09 PM

here in TN legal limit is 35% in the front and no limit on all the back windows. but mine are double 20% in the back and 20% in the front and 20% strip across the windshield. oh and there is a limit on how far down the strip can go on the windshield. idk what it is but mine is illegal:w2:

94cummins12v 10-28-2008 11:53 PM

here in idaho they have laws about it, but ive never been stopped once for it and i have limo tint all the way around even a sun strip at the top

hughesis21 10-29-2008 01:17 AM

just tint it and pay a ticket everyonce and a while

State law on the front door windows is 35%, but federal is 20%. All inspectors have told me federal law trumps state and 20% will get me an inspection. I have always been told to roll all windows down and put hands where the officer can see if pulled over. I have not been pulled over many times, but they never even think about window tint when I do this. I have always gathered that they are thankful I am helping them be comfortable that I am not going to try something.
