A Nice Inexpensive Pistol
I am filing for my pistol permit and wanted to know a decent inexspensive pistol that can take down a deer.

I have a stainless Taurus 44 mag with a 6 1/2 inch barrel. I got it like 6 years ago and paid $450 for it brand new. I love the gun. It's factory ported and has Pachmeyer style combat grips.
Can't beat the lifetime warranty either. If you break something you either get a repaired gun or a new gun in about 2 weeks time. |
... To be clear, are you looking for a pistol or a revolver?
|
either is fine. I'll probably pick up a used one what ever it is
|
Be sure to check your state regulations, they are typically pretty specific about what can be used for deer season.
|
Yeah they're pretty picky on barrel length.
|
this is the only regulation
Handgun*- any centerfire pistol or revolver. Barrel length maximum is 16 inches (NOTE: Possession of handguns in New York State requires a NYS Pistol Permit. New York does not recognize permits issued by other states.) |
Wow. MN, WI and a few other places have minimum barrel lengths and minimum calibers. I would have thought NY would have for sure.
That's pretty cool. It kind of opens up your choices. I'd still recommend a revolver for hunting due to better accuracy, simplicity and ability to take abuse. |
yeah I like the idea of a 44 mag but I am also thinking of a 38 special. will a 38 take a deer down?
|
Them Black Powder pistols are pretty cool to use to all decked out with the scopes. Called Contenders if I remember right. But deffinately a revolver style if your goin that route. Caliber's a personal choice, just have to go to a gun shop and shoot them all cause they all will do the job.
